About the Author
Research for Wally's Woods began when Dean started exploring the fields and woods at the edge of his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was five years old, and his parents called the police to look for their child who had disappeared from the front yard.
While in high school, he took a mail order course from The Landon School of Cartooning, but didn't connect cartooning with nature right away. After graduating from the University of Iowa, he got a job as a cartoonist with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, bought a canoe and joined the Ozark Wilderness Waterways Club. The canoe took Dean on Ozark rivers, and led him to join conservation organizations. Since then he has paddled and hiked in many places while studying ecology, and drawing cartoons for American Greetings, Mad Magazine, American Whitewater, American Canoe Association, Keelhaulers Canoe Club, Adirondac, Purple Martin Update, WBNA News, Trigg Times and Hurley's Journal.
Today Dean lives in Cleveland, Ohio, and walks in the woods and paddles the rivers to get ideas for cartoon stories. Log on to www.geocities.com/wallyswoods to see new Wally's Woods cartoons. Future book collections will be published each year.
