About the Book

Introduction

The Editing Book is for college and university students of first year English, teachers of high school English or English as a second language, and writers who

~ need clear direction for improving written work;

~ request explicit methods for producing the essay, poetry and prose analysis, report, and job résumé;

~ desire a grammatical explanation of basic sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and usage; and

~ appreciate the support of an Answer Key.

Students arrive at college and university with gaps in both their understanding of English language and their ability to write in various genres.

Teachers of English or English as a second language require a common vocabulary for evaluating written work and a focus for language study.

Writers need a concise, practical guide to forceful writing.

The Editing Book supplies answers for all these groups.

About the Author

For twenty-one years Shirley Campbell taught English and social studies in schools in Ontario, Kenya, and British Columbia. Her special interests were English language and literature.

She first developed material in The Editing Book for her classes at Pleasant Valley Secondary School, Armstrong, British Columbia, as she saw a need to link writing with language study and provide a common vocabulary with which to discuss students' written work.

Shirley attended elementary and secondary school in Quebec and Ontario. She obtained her B.A. (Hon.) in history, politics and economics from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, and her M.A. in curriculum and administration from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington.
