About the Book

These 51 poems emerged from Roxanne Lanier's unfolding experience of Old Age. Her background is rich. She has studied theology with Paul Tillich at Union Theological Seminary in New York City; psychology under Fritz Perls, the founder of Gestalt therapy; and spirituality with Matthew Fox, founder of the University of Creation Spirituality. Since her seventy-fifth year she has become a public spokesperson for Conscious Aging, having appeared at numerous venues including Grace cathedral in San Francisco and on video with spiritual teacher Ram Dass.

About the Author

Roxanne Lanier has an intimate acquaintance with the humor and absurdity of life, nourished by her appreciation of theatre and acting. She confesses to a life-long love affair with the "Real" and turns away from the "Phony" whenever it rears its ugly head.

Sample Excerpt

I come to old age
as to an unfamiliar land,
foreign in its ways,
inhospitable to its guests.
I find I have packed the wrong things,
worn the wrong outfit,
studied a language no longer
spoken here.

The time of my arrival,
the exact entry point
are mysteries to me.
There are some who look settled here,
and that is the strangest thing of all.
I want to ask, but I think I know,
are they not, inside,
surprised, and unprepared,
like me?
