About the Book

A true story of a six year old kid, driven to provide for his Mom, brother, and his two sisters, when his Dad died from lead poisoning. He climbs the corporate ladder and eventually becomes the creator of JETWAYS. "Oops" is about unexpected happenings in an eventful and fruitful life.

About the Author

Carl's life began in the ghetto. He became his family's "breadwinner" after his Dad died from lead poisoning.
At nineteen he graduated from the School of Journalism at Los Angeles City college; but finding cub reporter wages to be very low, he went to work for Pacific Iron and Steel Co., Ltd, in the Watts area where he was born.
In ten years time, he rose to the top of the corporate ladder where he became the creator of "Jetways" airline loading equipment.
After losing his wife of 52 years to a brain surgeon's error, he entered a four-year trip into perdition and ostentatiousness in a too hasty marriage.
Then, in his late seventies, he arose from the ashes and rode on "cloud nine" with marriage to his dear sweet Virginia, who had been his deceased wife's best friend for forty years!

Excerpt

When the brain surgeon finally arrived, he wanted to make a fluid withdrawl from one of the three holes that he had bored in her skull, to assure himself that all was O.K.
When he inserted the hollow needle, into her skull, no fluid would come.
Instead of removing and inserting elsewhere as he had always done in the past, he waggled the long hollow needle up and down while still inserted. Her eyes fluttered, her body shook, and she went into a slump and a deep coma!
"Oops", the shock on Doctor's face jolted Carl! The doctor and a group of nurses quickly wheeled her to the elevator and down to surgery. Carl waited in the surgery visitors area for over two hours. They finally emerged and took her back up to the room. There were no visible vital signs and they hooked her up to life sustaining equipment. Carl stood or sat alongside of Mary, holding her hand, twenty-four hours a day for four days; leaving only long enough to go to the bathroom or to get a quick snack from one of the machines. If she awoke he wanted to be sure she knew he was with her. On the fifth day he asked Doctor Michael, "Is there life in her or is it only the machines that show life?" He said, "After this long in a deep coma there is no doubt life is gone."
Carl knew then that "life" was actually gone four days previous!
He told them to pull the plugs, gathered her few belongings, and trudged out like a "zombie".
This was his worst ever "Oops"!
