About the Book

If we are accidental beings on a remote planet in a vast universe, existing for merely a blip in cosmic time, "What's the point of living at all?" Until we learn life is too significant to be a short-lived brilliance that rises out of nothing and ends in nothing, we will continue to live in,what Thoreau saw as, quiet desperation.
We sense the Materialistic Wall when we ask the question, "Is that all there is?" And, this is going to become more visible as major scientific discoveries in our finite universe come to an end. When no other life can be found in our solar system, and we come to face the stark reality that life anywhere else is beyond reach, the scientific community will have to breach the Wall or stagnate. Without resorting to miracles or magic this book provides compelling evidence of life beyond the physical world by logically investigating the limitations of matter in the universe, by examining the cracks in the Wall that hint of highly evolved ancient beings and by analyzing what the mystics already know about a spiritual existence.
It takes a dedicated seeker, with no preconceived ideas and no intent on arriving, to see beyond the Wall. This book will expand your concepts of life and death and it may even be the spark that initiates your own personal pilgrimage. The mystics say we will be guided to the next step in our spiritual path when we are ready. Are you ready?

Comments about the book

"Ever wondered why there is anything rather than nothing at all? The Materialistic Wall, moves the reader from the heavens to the heart in a deep seamless read; from a scientific understanding of the universe to the thrill of spiritual knowing. This book is well researched, easily read and understood for those open to exploring a greater understanding of why we are here. Bud Carroll is profound and writes with a genuine love for humanity. He will undoubtedly push many into new avenues of thought."

Writer, publisher

"Every now and then, but not, alas, that often, one comes across a book which is very difficult to put down - it almost demands to be read through from start to finish - one is so curious to read on to the next page. The Materialistic Wall is just such a book. The subject matter, in the wrong hands, could go over ones head, however the author has performed a small miracle and made it fascinating and easily understood, while never talking down to the reader. A very special treatment of a subject we all wonder about: What's on the other side of the Wall?"

Jean T. Kirkoff - Retired - National Film Board of Canada librarian

Wonderful and detailed information. It answers any questions before they come up. Well developed content and very interesting topics. This writer has researched well the topics he develops in his book. I loved the whole thing. The title was appropriate for the book. Wish I could find more interesting books like this one.

On the front cover of The Materialistic Wall are the words "a catalyst for an awakening". For me, The Materialistic Wall is indeed such an instrument of enlightenment. Over several evenings, I read this well-crafted book. I found it to be a much-needed sabbatical, one in which I was able to take a rare opportunity and converse honestly with myself about who I am and how I live. Three words, eleven letters*are you ready? To open your soul and go beyond the wall? To see more exists than what you are actually willing to admit? This book challenges you to do just that by providing you with documentation of existence beyond the physical realm. I believe the evidence is so astounding that you have no logical choice but to question your own state of existence. I really appreciated the real life experiences that were included in the book, especially those dealing with the spirits of loved ones. Having had an experience with my own mother, it was good to be able to read more about spiritual visitations. I also greatly enjoyed the works featured on the chapter pages, particularly the pieces attached to Home and Community of Souls. Another thing I really liked about this book was that it did not try and convert you. The author gave detailed information, and that was that. It was left up to you to decide if you were interested in going beyond The Materialistic Wall. I found the entire book to be extremely interesting. A book like this one has been too long in coming. I look forward to seeing more books by Mr. Carroll.

This book was very thought provoking. Several of his ideas helped give voice and shape to my own views on life and The Materialistic Wall. My thinking has definitely been "stretched." His personal stories helped me to more easily relate to some of his concepts. This book was a perfect combination of ideas, spirituality and science. I really liked the fact he defined terms and he gave excellent examples of each of his theories. I'm still reeling after reading this book. I love reading a book that can stimulate my intellectual juices. However, this book does take a while to absorb. I took breaks in between chapters to achieve the best comprehension. This is definitely not a quick read but it is worth the time to delve into its pages. I didn't finish this book sooner! I'm going to recommend your book to my friends. It's definitely an eye, as well as, a mind opener! Thanks Mr. Carroll for writing this book!

About the Author

Bud Carroll was born in Victoria, BC, but he lived most of his life in other parts of Canada: Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Manitoba and Northern Ontario. Since childhood he has been interested in metaphysics and otherworldly phenomena, which he believes is the reason for the psychic happenings that have occurred sporadically throughout his life. He continues to investigate spirituality, clairvoyance and physical mediumship. He spent over twenty years researching the miracle of life in an entropy-ridden universe and retired to his home province in 1996 to write about what he discovered.

Excerpt

One evening, several years ago, I was playing an after dinner game with some friends. We were asking "questions" from The Book of Questions by Gregory Stock, Ph.D. who considers them the ultimate conversation starters. One of the questions that provoked much debate was: If you could live one year of your life in supreme happiness, but afterwards that year would be totally forgotten, would you do it? I have put this question to many people. Some have been quite willing to lose a year of their life to experience such bliss. Even when I point out that it would be exactly the same as being in a coma for a year, they still want the experience. But it is a non-experience, it is a lost year from life - not one moment of it will ever be remembered. Sleep without dreams. Maybe that is what makes it so attractive, an escape from reality.
The quickest response I ever got to this question was from my wife who said, without hesitation, "What's the point?" And that is it precisely. What is the point? Knowing an existence not remembered is no existence at all caused me to wonder about the significance of life. If we strive all of our lives to learn and to experience all we are capable of, then, lose it all to death - What's the point? How can horrible frantic demanding beautiful wondrous fantastic life be so frivolous with all that we have become?
If we compare our life-span with the life-span of the universe our lives are relatively insignificant, barely a blip in cosmic time. Life has no meaning at all if the only segment of consciousness allotted to us are the few years between when we were born and when we die. What is the point of striving and learning for seventy odd years just to have it all suddenly end? When we are at our peak of knowledge and skills all this wonderful potential is lost to death. What a terrible waste of human effort. Is life really so insignificant and frivolous with our lifetime of effort and learning to bury it all with us? I don't think so. Life is too filled with wondrous things to be wasted so.
We grumble about all the trials and tribulations in life, yet, when the end comes, we gasp for every last breath to prolong our misery. Most people agree life is significant and, yet, they fail to realize human life is much too significant to exist only for a tiny moment in time. If life is as significant as we believe it is, then there must be something beyond materialism - there must be an unseen spiritual realm. With this assumption in mind I began to investigate and question the material world. I wanted to see what evidence I could find for an existence beyond the physical universe because I had come to this conclusion; if materialism represents the totality of reality and human beings accidentally evolved from primordial slime, then - What's the point?
