About the Book

Set in the near future, the saga unfolds to reveal that Europe is on the verge of unifying and Russia has opened itself up to tourism. From this foundation, the narrator depicts the events, most of which are historical facts, that lead a man named "The Commandant" to gain power and put the entire world in danger. The "soldiers" use nuclear devices, major commercial airlines and airports throughout Europe, tourists taken hostage, and assassins, to take control of the European continent. As to be expected, world trade comes to a halt, and the US and Russia face a nuclear showdown as never seen since the Kennedy era. As events reach a climax, the Commandant pulls out all the stops to nuclear war. The President of the United States collapses in disbelief, while his staff wait to see what the Commandant will do next.

Excerpts

excerpt from 'Then Came the Rain'

The alarm was sounding all through the massive complex.
"THIS IS NOT A DRILL! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! All units report to your staging area. All units report to your staging areas."
The large auditoriums throughout the complex were filled in just a matter of a few moments. Their large screens displayed the message from the Commandant.
"As you all know by now, the time for us to conduct the operations that we have been training for these many plus years is finally upon us. We are going to use the bad and worsening weather to move you all to a forward staging area near the supply points were you will receive all of your final gear. There, you will be joined by others and be matched up for unit size detachment. Then you will proceed to your rendezvous points. We must go now in anticipation of the large weather front that is forecasted in the coming days."
"Most of you have seen the maps, in which you will be returning to. You are to control, and by all means, hold the map until such a time that you are told differently. Most of your comrades are already over at the maps waiting for you. They will return to each airport in their prospective map, to receive supplies that you will be bring to them."
"Your timely manner will be needed to get the weapons and other devices off the air craft swiftly, for there will be others following you in just moments. Some of you will be meeting with those who are coming from afar, and have other jobs to do. You will assist them in every way possible."
"It is our time to take back what is rightfully Russia's. This is the last turning point in our history of being the greatest country on earth. We were here well before Columbus sailed to that other land. We will be here well after all else is gone. Therefore, good luck to us all. I am sure that you will do the job needed to get us back as the true leader of this world, and the next."
The special operations people were waiting for their in-briefings, when the Commandant walked up to the podium.
"I want to start by telling you all, just how proud I am of you. You are the future of this great day. And your mission is the tightest kept and most important secret of this entire project."
The Commandant came from behind the podium, and stepped down from the platform. He walked in and out of the men and women that sat with complete stillness, eyes forward. He went on with his speech as he held up a map of Europe in his hands.
"You are going to a place that others have gone to map out, and hold for you. A place that has a date with time and history."
He moved back up to the podium and rested his elbows on it.
"Upon your arrival, you are going to have to separate yourself from all others."
You must not talk to or listen to those outside your group. You must take what is yours and move out quickly, set up and wait for the time to act.
You must be alert and keep your head clear.
When all your comrades have done what is necessary for our mission, they will be found. They will be surrounded and may become in danger of losing their ground."
"This is where you all come into play. You are the answer to the plague that may surround you. However, understand, there are those who will learn about your efforts, and will try to trick you into stopping all that you have trained for. They will look for you, they will hear of your might, and they will try to challenge you."
"When they find out about you, they will come for you like nothing you have ever known. A force that will make the thunder in the sky as silent as a single raindrop that falls in the ocean. From every position that seems possible to take, they will come for you. They know what you are about, and they have the means to stop you from your mission. Nevertheless, you can not fail. You have to defend all that is coming for you; from deep down inside you must fight it. The beast that makes you feel the need for revenge for the life of Russia. Trust yourself, and those of your team; only your training will see you through. I cannot be there with you, though I will be there with all my heart for you."
The Commandant stared, and looked outward through the window pelted by the rain that was being hurled against it. Then he looked back at his troops.
"You must hold on to your beliefs. Don't sway from your mission, and if all other means somehow fail, and you are cut off from those that you are there to protect, then believe that they are lost, don't hesitate to act, don't look for answers, you will know it is what needs to be done. If this time comes: Execute, Execute, and Execute!"
"That is all, stand by for your individual in-briefings."

excerpt from 'Brighton'

"We need to get this fight contained, Sir! They are really giving it all that they have. We are trying to find out if there are some kind of under ground inlets to enter through."
"Captain!" the General said, "Get your ass going on this. You have the means to hit them, so hit them! I don't care if you have to call Scotty to beam you into the place, just get this damn thing over with, out."
The Captain hung up his telephone and tried to get the thing rolling along like the General said. "Let's see what the Royal Air Force can do."
"Yea, that sounds like the ticket, we can come a Rollin' on it, one at a time, mate. Stand by and hold onto your asses. You leave it up to me. I know just what you need."
The Commander of the Royal Air Forces called for all helicopters to make a drag and shoot at the air terminal.
"Make it quick, the boys are bogged down and they need an opening to rush the place."
They all swung out wide of the main terminal then made a mad dash damn near flying in the front door.
    Kawoooshh!!
    BLAMMMMMMM, BLAMMMMMM!!!
They unleashed everything that they had. The place exploded into a massive inferno that could be seen for miles away.
The Squid team was moving in just as one of the soldiers came running up and grabbed the one guy that was sitting next to the device. The LT was watching every one of the Russian soldiers drawing back as to form a defensive fighting circle.
    Just then:
    ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!
This blinding flash of light came from the airport at Portsmouth. The Squid team covered their eyes then waited for the BOOOOOOOOOM! The blast sounded with a crack and the shock wave blew the hell out of the place and had all the grass that they were laying in knocked down as a faint mushroom cloud could be seen climbing high into the distant sky.
The LT and his men along with the Russian soldiers stood up as they watched the cloud move upward and outward. They knew that it was only a matter of time until the blast would have its effect on them. They turned to see the Russians looking over at the men that were spread out in an almost circle around them. They grabbed their guns as the LT ran towards them pulling out a white tee shirt from under his uniform and waving it at the Russians. It seemed forever as he ran shouting in Russian, "Don't do it!" his hands over his head with the white flag in clear view.
"Do Not do it, do not do it!" he screamed as the heart beat inside his chest almost exploded out. He just kept running towards the soldiers.
