About the Book

A book of autobiographical poetry that chronicals the life of a middle class African American gay man who wasn't afraid to take chances and life live; not let life live him.

About the Author

Lawrence Hubbard, was born in Pittsburgh, PA in October 1965 and raised in Detroit MI, by a single mother who believed in and provided for the best of everything for her two children. Leaving Detroit the day after graduating from high school to pursue a college education, he began his travel through the education life had in store for him. Although not picking up a pen for the first time to write until he was involved in a catastrophic accident which nearly left him a paraplegic when he was 34, he has for years been a sought after motivational and public speaker and is a world renowned Interior Designer, who's received numerous Senatorial and Congressional acknowledgments.
Now residing in Dallas, Texas, he dedicates his time to his family, the continued growth and understanding between gay and non-gay communities, and the importance of mentorship for their youth. He is currently working on his first Novel, "Somebody's going to love me," starring in a feature film and hosting a national lifestyle television show.

Excerpt

M.I.A
If you take the time to create a life, you should stay to watch it grow.

M.I.A.

Looking in the mirror,
Asking myself the wrong question.
"Who am I?"
When it should be,
"Where are you?"
What kind of man creates a child,
Runs off,
Without ever looking back?
All my life I had to improvise who made up the other side
of me.
I could look at my mother and identify every characteristic
we shared,
Those we didn't caused me great pain and confusion.
Again I ask,
"Who am I?"
I know where I am,
But where are you?
I am a strong,
Intelligent,
Nurturing black man.
All this accomplished without you, but with you who
knows how much more I could be?
Because you were weak,
I had to call another man dad,
Damn,
Did that shit make me mad!
