About the Book

FREEFALL is a collection of poems that does not follow the conventional standards of most poetry. These are accessible poems that try to push their way under the surface of the things in life that we all have in common and then in some cases, turn them inside out. Each one paints a small picture of a person, place or event that has been or may eventually be shared by us all. "One way to describe this book was expressed to me by the first person who read it. He called it Twilight Zone poetry. Not that it is in any way related to Science Fiction but instead he explained that he used that term because most of the poems have a little twist at the end. Whether everyone will feel that way about it, I can't say. I just wanted it to be an enjoyable read."

About the Author

Robert Medina was born in Leavenworth, Kansas and moved with his family to New Orleans, Louisiana at a very young age. With the exception of his time in the service of the U. S. Navy, he has spent most of his life in the Big Easy.

"New Orleans was a great place to grow up." says Medina. "The diverse cultures, foods, music, religions and unusual local characters makes it a wonderful melting pot from which to draw inspiration in any field of art. It is like living in a very large small town. I believe everyone should experience New Orleans at least once in his or her lifetime. But be warned, you may never want to leave!"

Upon his return from military duty, he graduated from Delgado College and spent the next 24 years as a New Orleans firefighter. He recently retired from the department due to an on duty injury. He now resides in the New Orleans area with his wife Lori where he continues with his writing.

Excerpts

Ruby's Husband

I liked her just fine
But she gave me love
Which I did not want to take
Now she loves another
Who is always angry
I think it's because he knows
That some of his love is missing

Repercussions of Missing a Night's Sleep

I lost a dream last night
Somewhere in the sleep world
It strayed off from the rest
Then slipped into the nocturnal current
Where it now drifts along
Searching for that empty inlet
Branching off to lodge itself
In someone else's sleeping mind
For them to dream my dream
And wonder what it was about
