She has taught online courses for many years. She was the first faculty member at Southwest Texas State University to teach a for credit online course. He has been involved in the computer industry since taking a technical school course in computers in 1963. His programming experience began with the Radio Shack Model 3, for which he wrote programs for the petroleum distribution industry. He is now the CEO of e-Linkages, Inc. and develops Internet-based data handling programs for surveys, business data tracking, and specialized data storage needs. Charles Johnson Ph.D. Dr. Johnson is the Chairman, Department of Health Services Research at Southwest Texas State University at San Marcos. He has been a consistent leader in faculty development for Internet-based teaching, interactive video application, streaming video and promoting universal accessible web pages. Dr. Johnson began his leadership role in using microcomputers for classes as early as 1977, pioneering with some of the first available microcomputers. He is characterized by his futurist leadership. Dr. Johnson has been recognized as an outstanding teacher by the School of Health Professions as well as by Southwest Texas State University. He has publications and presentations related to futurist thinking and telecommunications. Shirley Fennell MSHP While a graduate student at Southwest Texas University, Shirley received the Academic Excellence Award. Ms. Fennell recently passed the Professional in Human Resource Certification (PHR) exam. Donna Gardner RRT, MSHP Donna is a Department of Respiratory Care faculty member and department Distance Education and Continuing Education Coordinator at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. De De received her graduate degree from Southwest Texas State University, where she developed a multimedia assessment tool for her thesis, which appears in this book. Barbara Lyman Ph.D. Barbara serves as Associate Dean of the Graduate College at Southwest Texas State University and is a Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Psychological Services. Lyman received her bachelor's degree in English from Anna Maria College, her master's degree in English & American literature from Brandeis University, a certificate of advanced study in reading education from Harvard,and a Ph.D.in education from Louisiana State University. Her full-time university teaching includes employment at Oakland University, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and the University of Delaware. She has taught at SWT for 12 years. During this time, Lyman has also served as coordinator and advisor for the graduate program in developmental and adult education, associate director of human resources and acting chair of the Department of Art and Design. She was a 2000-01 Fellow of the American Council on Education (ACE). Author and co-author of numerous publications, including journal articles, reports, chapters, and edited volumes, Dr.Lyman's scholarly activities include several grant funded projects and many conference papers and presentations. Bruce Landon Ph.D. Bruce is a member of the faculty of Douglas College, New Westminster, British Columbia and a Senior Advisor with the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications (WCET), Boulder, Colorado. Bruce earned his doctorate in experimental social psychology from Rutgers University. He has worked in applied research settings as well as clinical settings. Bruce began teaching at Douglas College in 1976 and currently teaches courses in introductory psychology, social psychology, research methods in psychology, data analysis in psychology and cognitive psychology. At the College he has also been involved in contract negotiations about educational technology at both the local and provincial tables. Bruce's current involvement extends from human-computer interaction in accessible web-based decision support technology to community based treatment programs for victims of child abuse. Gene Martin Ed.D. Dr. Martin serves as Director of Extended and Distance Learning and Professor of Technology at Southwest Texas State University. He is the author of numerous publications in various professional journals, books, and monographs. He has edited three yearbooks for the Council on Technology Teacher Education with the most recent yearbook being Technology Education or the 21st Century A Collection of Essays. He has also co-authored two additional technology books. Dr. Martin has received the Teacher Educator of the Year award from the Council on Technology Teacher Education, and he has been named the recipient of numerous awards from the International Technology Education Association including the Academy of Fellows award. He has served on editorial boards of several widely respected journals in the profession and he is a frequent invited presenter at state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Martin has performed an active role in the advancement of technology education in the United States and has served as ITEA's Chair of its National Commission for Technology Education. Karen Middleton M.A. Karen is the senior project coordinator for the Western Cooperative, managing a Hewlett funded project, "E-learning Technologies: Web Resource for Comparisons." Previously, Karen directed eCollege's Center for Internet Technology in Education (CiTE) and served in several capacities at the University of Denver: as Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs at the Graduate School of International Studies, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs (1997-99), and Director of Operations for Alumni and Development at the College of Law (1994-96). Karen is a preliminary Ph.D. candidate in higher education administration at the University of Denver. She received her M.A. in politics from the University of Colorado at Denver and a B.A.from Mount Holyoke College. Cyndi Rowland Ph.D. Cyndi works at the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University. She is the director of the Keeping web Accessibility in Mind, or WebAIM project ; the U.S.Department of Education (LAAP) funds this program. WebAIM works to mitigate the enormous problems of inaccessible web sites in postsecondary settings. For several years, Dr.Rowland has conducted web accessibility research and worked on web accessibility efforts for those with disabilities.She is a frequent speaker and author on these topics. Dr.Rowland directs other technology projects at the Center for Persons with Disabilities. She is the director of a distance education program in Utah. This program prepares teachers in rural areas of the state for certification in early childhood special education. She also directs an effort to provide curriculum reform in distance education through the use of multimedia tools that can be used to create virtual simulations and real-life practice of skills under study. She understands the issues that surround distance and online education, the importance of technology applications,and the need to ensure that all individuals can access online materials. Phil Vardiman Ph.D. Phil is an Assistant Professor at Abilene Christian University in the College of Business Administration.Previously, Phil was an Assistant Professor at Southwest Texas State University where he taught Human Resources in the College of Health Professions. Prior to beginning his academic career Phil worked in both Operations Management and Human Resource Management with three Fortune 500 companies. He has also provided consulting support to various companies in the areas of HR and leadership development. Phil received his Ph.D.in Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University, an MBA from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and his BS Ed From Abilene Christian University. Leo Valdes,B.S.,C.C.P. Leo is the Managing Director of Vision Office, a training and web consulting firm based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
