About the Book

This autobiography briefly covers my first eighty years. "In the beginning" is from my birth in 1921, through my school days, until hig school graduation in 1938 from Fullerton, Nebraska.

That was followed with 5 years of time in the army, serving in the jungles of Panama, helping to guard the Panama Canal and as a bombardier flying B-17s of the Eighth Army Air Corps in England, during World War II.

I was recalled to active military duty in April of 1952 to go to Korea. The results turned into a full time military career with my primary duty changed from Bombardier to Navigator. Flying as a Navigation instructor and as a crew navigator kept me from participating in the Korean War and I became involved in the Cold War, flying surveillance missions in RB-50 bombers and C-130 cargo planes in Europe and southwest Asia.

In 1960 I was transferred to Kelly Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas and began flying in a different phase of the Cold War. We flew Logistic Support keeping Strategic Bombers and the missile silos supplied with their modern weapons.

Retirement began in 1966 and has not been boring. I served 20 years of active duty and seven years of reserve time that counted toward my retirement. I had spent 14 years outside the continental United States and more than a year of my life in the air as a crewmember and several more hours as a passenger that did not get logged.

In retirement I have been an adventurous traveler, employed in an aircraft factory, pursued interest hobbies, became a grandfather and a great grandfather and have now been retired for more years than it took to earn that retirement. I have been divorced, widwed and am now on a third marriage that is now over twenty years.

I have missed out on a lot of things I have wanted to do in my first eighty years. Now will be a time to accomplish some of those things I missed out on. It would take another 80 years to do them all.

With these words, my friends and family will learn a lot about me that they never knew.

I dedicate "My First Eighty Years" to all of those friends and family and thank them for all that they have contributed toward the events in my life.
