Introduction
QUOTE-"Continuous effort-not
strength or intelligence is the key to
unlocking our potential" - Black Elk
This book is mixture of notes, methods
and observations taken from over 24 years of
management experience. There are no
theories or speculations, just real methods,
"from the trenches", that work.
In the beginning of my career, I had the
great fortune to work with a store manager
who gave me a very valuable piece of advice.
He said to always watch over other managers and
see what their strengths and weaknesses are.
When you see those strengths, ask questions
and or advice on how they are successful in a
given area. Log that information in the brain
file. Also be aware of their shortcomings,
what doesn't work well. File those also.
When certain issues come up, you will have
the information on what could possibly work
and what will probably not work. I have
always passed that same piece of advice to
assistant managers that I have worked with.
Because of those observations fo rall
those years, I have seen the good, the bad
and the "Oh my God" styles of management.
I have also witnessed how employees respond
to those different management styles.
Sometimes it isn't pretty.
One area of management that seemed to
consistently be a challenge was employee
relation. I believe that it hasn't changed
much and that this is the greatest reason for
employee turnover. This is the premise for
this book.
How do you change our focus to eliminate
this waste of talent?
This book is for those business owners,
supervisors, managers and team leaders who
struggle with employee retention. These
techniques will reduce the turnover in your
workplace, improve productivity, create and
solidify teamwork and will result in happier
employees who will give you 100% each and
every day. You will develop and awareness, a
focus that will turn dark days into
brighter days not only for you, but for your
staff. Many employers have commented that
this new awareness has changed their
management style. How many times have
you read or heard of a business, or better yet
a sports team, proclaim that when they are
about to throw their hands up in the air that
they are "going back to the basics"? Don't
get things so complicated that the process
becomes a problem. It's a simple as a
remake of the golden rule "Do unto your
employees as yo would have your boss do
unto you".
Throughout the chapter you will find
quotes from famous people pertaining to the
subject matter. I put those in to help keep
you inspired and focused. The book is an
easy read and to the point. You won't find
150 pages of long, winded text that could
have been written in 20 pages.
I hope this book helps you as much as it
has helped many others.
