The Power That Makes Us Winners

Inspiration comes in many forms. In fact, a young man may say, "My inspiration is my girlfriend."

In reality, however, inspiration is something intangible. It is the power that moves us intellectually and emotionally to do something worthwhile, a divine influence within that makes us winners. Because we don't see it, we seek it. We seek it, because we need it.

Oftentimes, inspiration comes as a word of encouragement. On some occasions, it comes as an instruction from someone who cares for and who believes in you.

When you are inspired, you are happy to be alive...you cherish life... you are positive in everything... you are creative in facing challenges... you are empowered... you are undaunted by obstacles... you feel that nothing is impossible to you... you see your future bright, with faith in your heart.

I remember when I was still in grade school, my parents always encouraged me to study hard, to be faithful in finishing school assignments, and to exert extra effort in reviewing past lessons. Their support persuaded me to take on the challenge of performing exercises related to each subject that I learned, so that I was ready to tackle a surprise exam at any given time. Their confidence in me inspired me. And because of the inspiration I had always been included in the circle of top three grade schoolers.

All this came to an abrupt end when my parents died. No one was there to inspire me anymore. So while in college, I indulged myself in unhealthy youth activities to fill the emptiness.

One night, in a drunken stupor, I distinctly heard a Voice saying, "Is this the life you want to lead?" It came to me as a soft and yet shaking question that opened my young mind to see clearly in advance the dire consequence of my immature lifestyle. It was a divine leading question so lovingly expressed personally to me, urging me to make a personal decision right then and there. And in my mind, I resolutely said, "No."

The next day, it was perplexing for me to find that I had lost the desire for booze. I realized then that the night before, I had an initial life-changing encounter with the Master.

He has been guiding me, teaching me, and inspiring me since then. As I journeyed with the Master, He led me to share with others about my experiences with Him - in prisons and in schools - mostly with young people. Finally, in the last part of 1995, He led me to write about the true source of personal success to guide and to inspire others as He had inspired me. With the help of a friend who shouldered the printing cost, we printed about 10,000 copies to test the market.

The first bookstore I approached ordered a thousand copies right away. I couldn't believe it at first, but it was for real. Much to my amazement, the manager placed an order for another thousand copies two weeks later.

The clamor for more copies was unbelievable. Another bookstore manager told me he was truly surprised at how fast the item was selling. "While others are buying one copy at a time, this woman is buying several copies of it as gifts for their relatives and friends twice a week," he said. I was speechless.

On one occasion, I found myself taking a snack in the university canteen. I noticed that a copy of the material I wrote was placed on a shelf where everyone could read it. I later asked the canteen owner where they got the copy. She told me that it was a gift from her sister. "This is inspiring. The students are copying its content. They like it." she said.

A few days later, I was invited by a university professor to share something on values education before a group of students. I learned from them that the guidance counselor had a copy of my book. Since copies of it were not available in their city, she decided to copy each precept on a sheet of manila paper. She then posted it on the bulletin board "so that it may encourage and inspire everyone."

I also learned later from my printer that a bank manager ordered one hundred copies for her friends. A human resource manager of a mall chain bought two hundred copies for their executives. A vice president of a real estate firm ordered two hundred copies for their staff. The general manager of a shipping company bought two hundred copies to give away.

This amazing experience encouraged me to find a publisher capable of meeting the demand for the book. And so at this point, please allow me to give you this invitation...

Let this book be an instrument in giving you inspiration, too. Let me guide you to the Source of Inspiration, to the One who unconditionally cares for you, the One who wholeheartedly believes in you, the One who can truly inspire you and make YOU a SUCCESS.

A Beautiful Life Ahead of You

From time to time I take the chance of sharing values-centered and life-enhancing precepts to prisoners. I have made friends with some of them and on certain occasions, I have even eaten lunch with them. A few of them were repentant of what they have done. Some of them said they were victims. Most of them believed, though, that they have done nothing wrong.

For example, a former student known to have a high I.Q in school thought that his exploits as a bank-robber were right. Like Robin Hood, he just wanted to help the poor in his neighborhood. An ex-public official convicted of rape and murder never admitted that he commited any wrongdoing; instead he blamed others claiming that he was a victim of a "politicized judiciary." An ex-lawmaker convicted of molesting a minor said that he was just being benevolent to others; with the intention of helping another financially.

Remember, these people are intelligent. Now, why in the world did I find them in prison? I've observed that without values, having a smart and educated mind will only lead us to having a distorted, perverted, twisted life. Undoubtedly, a smart person may experience success in life -- but without the right values, his own brand of success is unlawful and chaotic.

Looking at their condition inside the penitentiary, I could not help but think of the sobering truth that, indeed, the life of the transgressor is really hard.

Fortunately, those who humbly regretted their misdeeds and truly made a decision to amend their ways experienced dramatic change in their lives. Prison officials were impressed and helped them get out of jail. As ex-convicts, they treasured their newfound freedom. This motivated them to become exemplary citizens and successful individuals in their own right.

You will be glad to learn that Mr. "Robin Hood" was one of them. He received his release papers and eventually became a person of prominence in his field of endeavor.

I wish to encourage you with this: Regardless of past mistakes, faults, and failures - a beautiful life lies ahead of you. Improving your life is achievable. Success in life is reachable. The only thing needed is for you to have faith and believe. This is your opportunity to have a taste of what these individuals had enjoyed -- a liberating and life-changing experience.

My friend, if convicted persons like them can change -- you can change. If hopeless men like them can find a chance to succeed in life - you have a greater chance. It doesn't matter who you are and where you are right now.

Allow this book to give you the inspiration to go on step by step, from day to day. Remember: Success takes only one step at a time, and each step is glorious in the Hands of the Master.

Take A New Dimension

A new thing, in some way, generates a response. A new born baby endlessly delights his parents. A new attire always attracts attention from peers. A sparkling new car always elicits admiration from on-lookers. A new day always brings us a fresh feeling and excitement.

I don't know about you, but I prefer the new stuff, not the old stuff. A new life...a new discovery! Ah, just thinking of it stimulates my mind and my heart. There's always something special with a new thing.

How wonderful to know that the Author of Life is so infinitely rich that He never runs out of new things to bless us with.

Life offers us an endless array of new things. Life keeps on adding new moments, new days, new opportunities. Life keeps us excitedly alive with a pleasurable expectation of new things to come.

There's always new knowledge... a new understanding... a new vision... a new revelation... a new inspiration. There's always a new panorama to behold... a new depth to discover... a new level to enjoy... a new height to explore... a new dimension to experience.

So, celebrate! Shout with joy in your heart. Say, "Thank you, God, for my life. Thank you for this new day. I'm happy to be alive!"

Take a new dimension in your life daily by meditating, declaring, and practicing a new vital precept. It will give you a plus factor. It will get you inspired. It will supply you with a new inner strength to press on. It will equip you with a positive feeling to face a new day. It will bless you with an intangible add-on that enhances your value as a person. It will electrify you and motivate you to continue moving on towards success.

You will never be the same!
