About the Book
This book, the first in a series, is designed to help anglers catch more and bigger fish in Lake Tarpon, Florida. The authors--professional tournament fishermen and outdoors writers--share tips, technipues and some close guarded secrets about catching trophy fish, especially largemouth bass, on the lake.
The guide provides a wealth of informations about the lake, its fish, and the surrounding resources available to anglers. Of particular value are up-to-date maps that identify seasonal hot spots for bass and crappie. A full sized map of the lake is also included including depths, names of familiar lake areas and laocations, and landing docks.
Numerous photos and graphics, including a rare picture of the lake record bass, a 19 lb monster caught on a live eel in 1961, add interest to the book.

Introduction and Table of Contents
Lake Tarpon is one of west-central Florida's best kept secrets. Although it was named one of the Top 10 black bass lakes in Florida by the Florida Fish and Game Commission, fishing pressure on Lake Tarpon has been very light in recent years. One reason is that it is located near prime saltwater access areas such as Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico- and many local and visiting anglers spend their time going after saltwater species such as snook, cobia, kingfish, grouper, and tarpon.
Another reason the lake isn't fished heavily may be its location. Its 2500 plus acres are nestled in an area of northern Pinellas County that is primarily residential and commercial. If you didn't know that the lake was there, you'd probably never find it. U.S. Highway 19 N borders the lake on the west- but almost no open water can be viewed from the road. There are only three easy public access areas and two of these are through State Parks. Most state maps show Lake Tarpon but many regional and natinal maps don't.
This book was written for local and visiting fishermen (and women) who want to catch more and bigger fish in Lake Tarpon. Our focus is primarily on black bass fishing, with an emphasis on trophy bass. However, it also includes fishing tips and specific locations for the lak's other species such as bream (bluegill), shellcracker, specks (crappie), catfish, gar and bowfin. All of these species are abundant in Lake Tarpon and usually are willing to bite year 'round.
