INTRODUCTION
This is an old-fashioned cookbook that reflects the diversity of our early American immigrants. Who without the modern conveniences of ready made basic food like mayonaise or store bought candy prepared most of their foods from scratch.
This cookbook brings back the nostalgia of makine ice cream from snow and the old-fashioned taffy pull for making candy.
These recipes are part of the heritage handed down from my father, Owen H. Smyre. The events when my father would cook were usually on special occasions, family get-togethers and barbeques.
It seems that the women in our family were good cooks but their roles were mainly the day-to-day cooking. When my children were young i did the routine cooking. When I realized that if my kids (now adults) were dying of starvation, society would think they were nuts not me, I quite the job of cooking. Yeah!
Now my husband has mostly taken up that role. He excels in special occasions like weddings, family get-togethers and barbeques.
I guess I married a man just like my Dad.
Many of the cooking terms in this cookbook have been updated to accommodate modern cooks.
