About the Book

The authors treat each page of this book of selected works as poetry. Their belief is that the development of an emotional or visual picture can be done in one frame of a photograph, with the use of pencil or paint, or with the use of one word, a few words, or a few hundred words. On each page the authors strive to develop an emotional picture using the "paint of our imagination and life experiences." The selected text of Fudali and Wyrzykowski, and the photos of Szafir, are treated here as poetic creation and should be treated and received as such by the reader. Poetry, they submit, need not necessarily be a poem.

The authors understand, and indeed expect, that the works contained within this text as seen through the lens of the imagination and mood of the reader will distort the works and allow the reader to develop personal, surrealistic, emotional pictures of his own imagination. Just as the works have been produced under the influence of something happening in the lives of the authors, so will the reader adjust the work to fit his own circumstances. Allow these works act as a mirror that is reflecting reality, and the reader to allow them to evoke the reality they create in his mind.

About the Authors

Radek Wyrzykowski was born in Lodz, Poland, in 1960.

He attended elementary school and high school in Rzeszow, Poland. It was in high school that his interest in writing flourished.

Following high school, Wyrzykowski entered Jagielonian University in Krakow, Poland, majoring in education; after his first year, he transferred to the Higher School of Education in Rzeszow. It was there that he became involved in, and eventually the head of, the students' Solidarity Movement - NZS

When the Polish government declared martial law in December 1981, Wyrzykowski was forced underground, where he remained in hiding until he was imprisoned in January 1982. In April 1982, Wyrzykowski was released from prison on the condition that he leave Poland. When he attempted to stay, the Polish government drafted him into a special military camp near the Russian border. It was then that Wyrzykowski left Poland and moved to the United States, where he currently resides in Chatham, New York.

Co-author Malgorzata Fudali was born on May 1st, 1986 in Rzeszow, Poland.

Fudali attended elementary school from 1993 and three years of gymnasium in Rzeszow, where she is now in her first year of high school. She began her writing career at age ten, with her first works appearing in 2001 in a Polish language Canadian literary magazine.

KROMKA CHLEBA

Chlopiecym usmiechem
Radoscia jednego dolara
Bosa stopa
Na goracym asfalcie

Stoisz... niewiedza wieku
Wina swiata, za murem
Odwroconej twarzy
Ktorej nie mozesz zrozumiec

Zyciem, zamknietym
W kromce chleba
Radoscia, ktorej my nie znamy
Chlopiecym usmiechem
Bosa stopa
Na goracym asfalcie
Istnienia

ZAPADAM SIE W CIEBIE

Zaglebilam sie w oceanie
Twoich oczu
Plywajac w blekicie fal
Moje cialo owinely
Wstegi zachodzacego slonca
Wiazoce nasze dusze

Wsrod ciemnych glebin
Sztormu niepewnosci
Bylam jak lisc
Co porwany wiatrem milosci
Szybowal w blasku
Spadajacej gwiazdy

Gdy bede tonac
Chwyc moja dlon
I ucaluj moloscia

Zamknij oczy, bym mogla wyszeptac:
“Kochaj mnie i nigdy nie przestawaj"
Bym mogla plynac w oceanie
Twoich oczu...
Na zawsze...

Chatham, 18.08.2002r.
