About the Book

This book offers a comprehensive comparison between scientific fact and discoveries vs. unquestioned religious myth, legends, superstition, fear and dictatorship. It's based on the author's experience during business travel to 50 countries, where he worked and lived amongst local businessmen. How it made his early Christian belief turn him to humanism/atheism.

About the Author

The author has travelled to nearly all muslim countries and a number of nations dominated by christian or other religions. He grew up during the Nazi regime in Germany. During his travels he had a first-hand opportunity to observe the often devastating results of religious division, tradition, brainwashing and misinformation.

Sample excerpts

After twenty years of observing the mostly negative results of a variety of religious teachings and devastating religious conflicts, he came to an obvious conclusion: religious tradition had little more to offer than superstition, misery, destruction and death, besides unanswered prayers. He found religion to be the worst form of dictatorship in many places. Just as he had been brainwashed by a fascist regime as a child, he discovered that religious "tradition" and teachings were putting unfounded, senseless fear and superstition into the followers of all major religions.

Modern science often takes years of research and cooperation between scientists across many national borders before a theory or an idea becomes recognized fact. In contrast, ancient religious teachings and scriptures are without exception based on legends, superstition, fear of the unknown, wishful thinking, and what was recorded hundreds or thousands of years ago. It all happened without any or little scientific knowledge, at a time without communication in different languages...

September 11,2001 - the horrible events of that day should be one more reason to seriously question any fundamentalist religious belief. Nineteen well educated, fanatical Islamic terrorists took their religious teachings and wrong interpretations of them so serious and as fact to the point of committing suicide; along with the murder of thousands of innocent civilians. All in the horrible false belief that "Allah" will welcome them.

Aids is blamed by one such TV evangelist on the "evil" homosexual lifestyle, while they overlook one of the greatest killers on the planet: CANCER.... We always had and will have temporarily incurable diseases. Aids started in Africa where most victims still live and die today, innocent natives who have nothing to do with "evil" homosexuality.

How do evangelists see an "unavoidable" biblical apocalypse wiping out the planet? First of all, man-made or natural disasters will never destroy the entire planet. That WILL happen in a few billion years when the sun turns slowly into a so-called "red giant"...

Some critical questions ( for creationists and firm religious believers):

3) Why would any god have chosen planet Earth for humankind? After all, we do have scientific evidence that Earth is nothing more than an insignificant speck orbiting an equally insignificant, middle aged and average star. Our sun is part of a vast galaxy of 200 to 400 billion stars. Planet earth and any neighboring planet is by no means perfect now, never has been and never will be...

7) How do creationists explain remains of prehistoric creatures that roamed the earth hundreds of millions of years ago and that can be found on every continent? How do they explain the presence of billions of gallons of oil deep below the earth's surface? It took hundreds of millions of years for countless tiny life forms to decompose to that stage.

8) If the Earth, "the sun and the moon..." etc. were created in six days, how do we explain the billions of years it took fo all other solar systems and the rest of the universe with billions of galaxies to form? Again, why this rather imperfect planet, where only about 19% of the surface is reasonably inhabitable for humans and other primates?

11) Why would the "merciful" Allah, a "loving Lord" create carnivorous animals, including humans, most of them to be born only to be eaten by other predators or to kill and feed on others?

19) If God "creates" and "takes" all life. How do we expect "him" to be at so many places at the same time on Earth, where on an average about five human beings are born or are dying EVERY SECOND, every minute every day, every year?

20) As during religious conflicts in Bosnia Kosovo, East Timor and Israel today, why would "He" have allowed the Christian Crusaders to slaughter millions of natives during their African/Middle East conquest? Why would he have allowed mass murder by the "Christian" conquistadors in South and Central America, in his name? Why would he have allowed the Jewish Holocaust? The Armenian Holocaust ?

23 Why would "He" allow natural disasters to happen - earthquakes, hurricanes, volcano eruptions, each of them often killing thousands of humans and living creatures?

25) Is it Christian morality when the most faithful are often the most racist? Was it not Christians who brought Africans over and sold them as slaves? In that context, is it not ironic that African Americans today are the most faithful Christians?

They feed the same, breed the same...

One of our closest relatives, the chimpanzee has four times the physical strength of the average human, pound for pound of body weight.

The similarity of human genes with those of chimpanzees was confirmed to be 99% (plus) and 70% with mice. No wonder, researchers use mice in test labs. Even the fruit fly has 60% human genes, the roundworm 20% and bacterium genes still have 4% similarity with those of humans.

The importance of genes to all living creatures was unknown [to the authors of the Bible] or the vastness of the cosmos, where distances are measured in billions of light-years, also meaningless to our ancestors.

The most extreme example of a warm-blooded creature living on an unbalanced diet and food poisonous to the human digestive system are the vultures. Yet they reach a rather ripe old age (for a bird) of over twenty years.

All vertebrates, such as alligators, cat-family animals, elephants, members of the bird family and apes, all have same basic two eyes, two lungs, two kidneys, a brain, four limbs, a rib cage and a spine. And most mammals have similar body temperatures, their blood is of the same color...

Mankind is no exception, had our early "ancestors" decided to remain aquatic or amphibious, we would look more like dolphins or reptiles today. It is the environment and evolution which shapes all life on this planet, NOT a hypothetical, mythical "divine creator" of all life. The proof is overwhelming.

Living organisms that had been exposed to extremely hostile conditions at one time or another had to adapt their body functions to specific surroundings, or they would never have survived. Some made it to this day, but most (95%) did not. Unknown to the authors of the scriptures, deep sea life had managed to thrive and multiply for millions of years in total darkness and under tremendous pressure.

Researchers have only recently confirmed [the theory] that homosexuality is not a "sin" or a willful choice. It is in all probability inherited through DNA from the family tree, and therefore is in fact a natural phenomena. People with a genetic tendency for homosexuality should therefore be treated the same way as so-called "straight" people...

Nature's waste and inefficiency are most evident in the creation of life. Billions of sperm cells take a run at it to fertilize ONE egg cell. Plants drop thousands of seeds to have only a few seedlings developing from some of them. While most of those are eaten immediately by animal "predators" , either as a seed or as seedling.

Following are more quotes by Thomas Paine: "The Christian mythologists tell us that Christ died for the sins of the world and that he came on purpose to die. Would it not have been the same if he had died of a fever or of smallpox, of old age or of anything else?" - Had he lived a full life, he could have done a lot more for mankind.

[Thomas Paine] In the "laws of Moses... among which inhuman and brutal law, chapter xxi, verses 18, 19, 20 and 21 which authorizes parents... to bring their own children to have them stoned to death for what is pleased to call stubbornness. In the next sentence Thomas Paine refers to chapter xxv vers. 4 "thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he threateth out the corn..." - Yet parents were allowed to have their children stoned to death...

[Thomas Paine] - "There is also no way to prove that Jesus was born to a VIRGIN mother. It was simply not possible for a virgin to become pregnant at that time or for that matter, today." - There was no such thing as artificial insemination then and after all, Mary and Joseph WERE of opposite sexes and living together.

... statistic, is that only 41 out of 100 people lived to be 65 in 1900 and by 1990 almost twice as many, to be exact, 79 out of 100. It was clearly not thanks to prayers or religious belief. Science has eliminated or controlled ...

Until recently, a law in the state of Alabama criminalized interracial marriages, obviously based on biblical teachings.

... religious sects proclaimed before the launch of the HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE that "God did not want" the HST to work. Probably because it would reveal information contrary to the Bible. Their jubilation was too early when the Hubble at first did fail. It was later repaired and was working well for years...

...we are looking into the past. Every visible object in the night sky appears as it was - seconds, minutes, hours, days - but in the majority of cases - years ago, often hundreds and thousands of years...

It is most remarkable that religious beliefs always emphasize on a "locality" (such as the biblical lands) due to the lack of communication between individual native groups... the lack of transportation and language barriers at the time.

Some of the ten commandments are dangerously similar to the orders to citizens of fascist or other dictatorships...

"I am the Lord, thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me"

Well known past and present personalities such as Thomas Edison, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, the late actor/comedian Steve Allen, the late Carl Sagan, Thomas Paine, Sigmund Freud, Bertrand Russell, Charles Darwin, Arthur C. Clark, Richard Dawkins and many more all were or are "freethinkers" or "agnostics/ atheists"

... prediction of a biblical "Armageddon" around the year 2000 or 2001. Wherever it came from, it is totally illogical. First of all, the year 2000 applies to the "Christian" or western calendar only. The Hebrew calendar shows 5760 and the Moslem counterpart indicates that it was the year 1420...
