About the Book

An abandoned small puppy finds a wonderful new person who shows him love in he first few minutes after she finds him. She tries to find the puppy's owner but hopes in her heart that the owner isn't found. This story explains how the puppy gets his name and how he learns to love his new owner.

About the Author

Elaine has loved to read since she was old enough to read. Walking miles to a local library or waiting for the bookmobile with friends on a warm summer afternoon was an activity Elaine enjoyed as a child.
A passion for writing must have started when she and her new husband lived in Levittown, Pennsylvania in the early 1960's and both their families lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since e-mail didn't exist yet, the most economical way of keeping both sets of parents and siblings informed of the events of their lives and the activities and growth of their children was to write long and descriptive letters.
Elaine has always mused what it would be like to be a published author. Until recently, an idea of writing for publication, or the time to indulge the idea never seems to come to fruition.

Keeping up with a full time job, husband, three children plus all the duties of running a household has kept Elaine pretty busy for most of her life. Elaine and her husband have lived in Harrison, Ohio since 1984.

A New Home for Crackers is her first attempt at a child's story. Elaine hopes to hear from her readers by e-mail to Timely@Starband.net

Sample Excerpts

After putting the firewood down near the fireplace in her small cottage, Maggie grabbed the flashlight that she kept handy on her old rolled top desk. She wrapped her shawl around herself a little tighter and stepped out on the porch again. The yapping sound changed to a whimpering sound that was coming from near the old oak tree. "Who's out there?" Maggie called as she shined her flashlight on the ground near the tree. Suddenly it looked like something small and white moved. Then another small white thing moved. As she looked a little harder she realized it was a small black puppy with four white paws.

As she put his breakfast on the floor for him she said, "I hope you'll like this." Crackers looked up at Maggie and gave out a small bark again. He then began to eat all of the crushed oats and warm milk. Several hours later, Maggie drove the distance to her closest town of Springfield with Crackers snuggled next to her on the seat. "Well, Maggie," she asked herself, "What are you going to do with this little puppy if you can't find its owner? This little squirt would sure entertain you on these cold winter days. Now don't get ahead of yourself, Maggie. This puppy's owner may be sick with worry and have notices all over town looking for this little bundle."
