- The Seeker (Epilogue)PREFACE
My inner joy and feeling about the Lord Jesus Christ could not be presented in a better way than through these poems. While the artist creates images in his mind and draws them out in the form of pictures, the poet empties his heart in the form of writing and his messages search the soul. I write these poems for the old and young to turn away from the superficial delights that this world offers and accept Jesus Christ as the only source of life and pleasure. My intention in writing these poems is to bring my readers nearer to God. Total satisfaction cannot be accomplished without divine intervention.
My encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ occurred at an early age and, as a result, influenced me dramatically. This effect laid in me the foundation of who I have become and have yet to be in the Lord. My thirst for God, which is derived from a daily personal rapport with the Holy Spirit, has brought me this far and compels me to share with others the love God has for Mankind. Hence, this collection of experiences, which are a gamut of personal reflections, proclaimed for the purpose of strengthening and maintaining one's spiritual well-being.
In a world like ours in which beings of different variety live and which contains natural resources not found on other planets, the human race has to make a change in relation to the many environmental, behavioral, physical, mental, psychological and spiritual hazards. It is vital to identify the most important aspect to be remedied for a better and more decent world where a growing morality and spirituality is observed. Considering these, the essential aspect which, when neglected, reduces societal morality, is the spiritual phase. It is more than ever decent to identify the truth and, by it, make a difference in this changing world of ours. Recognizing the truth would therefore mean knowing and accepting who He is and what He can do for Mankind.
Unfortunately, many profess to have found the truth but are still not making a difference. Truth is necessary for the transformation and renewal of milieu in order to produce thriving and progressive lives. It is an imperative aspect by which to live for the attainment of a life worthy of God's approval. The opening of 2 John is a recommended passage to learn about whom the truth is: "To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth and not I only, but also all who know the truth, because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us for ever. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father 's Son, will be with us in the truth and love."
The truth remains God's Word, revealed to Mankind through His prophets of old, and later through His Son who brought the message of salvation for the redemption of Man's sin and for the reunification of the broken relationship between God and Man. Looking at the truth as being God's Word should also drive us into considering what it says about our Lord Jesus Christ. In John 1, we are told that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word was God. We are told about the Word being the light of men, which manifested itself in human form.
A difference in our world today would depend on our knowing, accepting and believing in the truth, through whom we have been made whole. I pray, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that these poems will become bright stars capable of lighting the way to eternal bliss, also helping us to know how we can stand together for the attainment of a difference in this our changing world.
PROLOGUE
The Seeker
Light filtered through the curtains in the large and magnificent living room. Mark sat at the dining room table and finished the food he was eating. Being the only child, he often received advice from his father who felt Mark was living a wayward life. Every afternoon after returning from school, Mark investigated his father's presence from work during his meal, and was fast at getting to his room and pretending to do his homework. He loved his father but disliked his company because of too much advice and too many rebukes.
It was four p.m. when Mark heard the dog barking from the living room. He peeped through the curtains and saw his father's car parked in the driveway. He immediately drew back from the window and rushed into his room. Mr. Kim entered the house and hung his coat in the closet near the door. He dropped his suitcase on the glass table by his room and went to Mark's room to check on him.
"Good afternoon, boy," said Mr. Kim as he pulled the door open. "How was school?"
"It was fine, sir," Mark replied staring down at his book.
"Interesting... huh, I'm happy you're studying." Mr. Kim said. "By the way, I won't be home till late tonight. I have an important meeting and Karen will be here with you until I return. Be good."
"I will, sir," Mark replied as he watched his father leaving the room. Mark threw down his book, picked up the phone and made two calls. He stood at his window eyeing the green pasture that faced the back of his room.
What's wrong with me? I have all I want but I'm not satisfied. Is this about mom's death? Well I hope things get better soon, Mark thought as he strode to and from the window.
Miss Karen had just come in after waving good-bye to Mr. Kim. She was a tall, beautiful lady who was often praised by his father and, unbeknown to Mark, would in some years become his stepmother. He particularly loved her, but resented her presence because he felt his father used her to continue babying him. He wanted to be free, able to do what he wished at any time.
"Do you want some tea, my sweet pokey?" Karen asked Mark as she approached the chair on which Mark was sitting.
"I'm fine, Karen. All I need now is some sleep," Mark said on the way to his room. He locked the door, unlatched the window's knob and climbed down to where his friends James and Peter were waiting.
"Where've you been? We've been waiting for an hour now," said James.
"Waiting for you-know-who to leave the house. Anyway, makes no difference. Let's go." They moved down the street and disappeared into the shadows of the night. It was already midnight when Karen, after hearing the bell ring, got up from her seat to open the door for Mr. Kim.
"Hey, babe, everything all right?" Karen asked, closing the door and giving him a passionate hug.
"All's fine with you in my arms. How's Mark-is he alright?"
"He's fine and sound asleep."
"Poor boy, he's been studying so hard lately."
