Eight hours later, they arrived in Ireland. After clearing customs, they were allowed outside. Both of the children ran to see their smiling Granny B! They all hugged. Then Mom hugged and kissed Granny. It had been too long! Far too long!
Granny B was a fascinating woman. She didn't just stay at home and grow old and boring; she was the kind of lady that was interested in getting out and doing things. She wasn't content just to sit and watch others have all the fun! Granny B was now 85, and had a personality that was unbeatable!

After supper, Max was still getting the teasing he deserved, but soon the attention turned to the mantlepiece. There was an old black and white photo of a pretty, young woman. She was standing in front of World War II Spitfire fighter plane, holding a helmet. She was wearing a pilot's uniform. The young woman looked a lot like someone they knew...Granny B!
"Granny B, were you a fighter pilot?" the kids squealed with excitement.
But before she could answer, they saw the medals that were beside the picture in a wooden Victorian frame.

Then, the cloud cover lifted that had hidden my plane, and I was seen! One fighter gave me chase! Immediately, I dashed down to see if I could lose them. If only I could hide my plane in the surrounding hills. I took in deep breaths! Over rivers and under old stone bridges, I flew, while the enemy fired their guns at me from behind. I was under heavy attack!
