About the Book
Hubert Goodwin, eldest of six children, the first-born son of Christian parents, is determined to discover life without the anchor of Christ. His journey will take him from his native English village of Hulney to the rugged country of India where he will learn to fight as a soldier and possibly die in the service of the East India Company.
Set in the late 1700s and early 1800s, this true story will touch your life in a profound way! The Goodwin family who were "well to do in the world, and descended from a family of some distinction," lived in Hulney, a tiny village in the north of Alnwick in Northern England. By historical account, this tiny village saw Margaret, wife of Henry VI, take refuge in its ancient church. Also, one hundred heroes of Flodden Field rested there on their return from victory.
Travel with Hubert as he struggles with his past in order to choose his final destiny.
From the Editor
Norman Flout's first contact with The Torn Bible was in the early nineties while living in the New Testament Missionary Fellowship house church. As he pursued the church library for a thought provoking book, he stumbled across this excellent book. Had Norman known that this book would lead him on a quest to publish it and get it into the hands of as many people as possible, he probably would not have even picked it up. But, as many of us know, God's ways are not our ways, and He is patient in waiting for His will to come to pass.
Norman's latest research has determined that Hulney is actually Hulne Priory and Hulne Park, and information on Alice Somerton is in the process of being gathered.

From Chapter V
The moon rose calmly in the sky and her soft rays fell upon the trees beneath which Hubert lay. He was still insensible and the brown grass around him was stained with blood. A slight breath of wind that passed over him gently waved the dark hair form his wounded forehead; another ball had shattered his right leg, which had bent up beneath him as he fell.
From Chapter XIII
Years rolled away. Hubert's history in the village became almost a thing of the past; the young, who had paid a sort of homage to him for his warrior fame, had almost forgotten it, and had grown up to reverence him for his goodness, and the aged, as he sat by many a dying bed, blessed him with their latest breath. Ever, day by day, did Hubert take his staff and go forth to comfort some less favoured brother, and the "Torn Bible" - guide of his present life - accusing, yet dear relic of his past, soothed many a departing spirit, and helped to ripen his own for Eternity.
