About the Book

Intrinsic Golf - It's Within You: How to Play Better Golf When You Don't Have Time to Practice or Take Lessons will help all golfers, beginners as well as seasoned players, discover that it's easier to find their own swing and play by feel than it is to learn and play with someone else's methods and mechanics.

Former Major LEague Pitcher and professional/college coach Bill Denehy was taught the underlying theory behind the basic swing exercises described and demonstrated in Intrinsic Golf by Baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams. These exercises provide a simple method for golfers to find or rediscover the rhythmic, flowing swing motion that's within them. By using their own intrinsic swing, instead of today's modern mechanical hitting motion, golfers will come to realize that improvements in both distance and accuracy are derived from consistency, tempo and speed - not power. And since swinging the club is physically less taxing than hitting at the ball, golfers will discover that their new, relaxed swing will result in improved ball striking and lower scores - even when they don't have time to practice or take lessons.

Throughout the book, Bill utilizes various facts and notable quotes to validate his theory, including the following excerpt from a recent Golf Digest article by NBC Golf Analyst Johnny Miller: "We're living in an age of power in which distance is king. Young players are taught to just murder the ball, and their swings have become incredibly fast and violent. This is fine for world-class players with superb hand-eye coordination, but for the average golfer it often spells trouble since accuracy is every bit as important as distance. Something has been lost - a thing called "grace." The rhythmic, flowing type of swing that golfers used to envy and try to emulate has fallen by the wayside. It's too bad because the majority of golfers would play better if they practiced with a languid, flowing swing in mind. They would hit the ball more solidly, have better timing, and be more consistent."

We could not have stated the case for reading Intrinsic Golf any better. Learn how to find your own rhythmic swing in just two minutes a day. Intrinsic Golf -It's Within You!

About the Author

Bill Denehy is a former Major League Pitcher with the New York Mets, the Washington Senators and the Detroit Tigers. During his career he played for such notables as Billy Martin and Ted Williams, and the latter taught him a great deal about the art and science of hitting a ball. Bill also coached at the professional and collegiate levels and counts Houston's Jeff Bagwell and Roger Clemens as two of his prize pupils. Bill's success in coaching is based on bringing out the best in each player's ability, depending on their athleticism, flexibility and physical capabilities.

After leaving baseball, Bill moved to Orlando, Florida, and focused his attention on improving his golf game. Within a couple of years, he had reduced his handicap to 4 and become a Certified Instructor with a Top 25 golf school. For the past 8 years Bill has been teaching golf and playing in celebrity tournaments in and around the Central Florida Area. Bill believes every golfer should find, feel and play with their own swing, not with somebody else's swing, thoughts and mechanics. Bill also believes in playing by feel - your feel, and not somebody else's, and he shows you how with Intrinsic Golf.

Excerpts

In the 1970's, Dave Pelz, the noted short game guru, began charting the rounds of dozens of PGA Tour professionals. He would walk with them for 18 holes on Thursday and Friday. He would watch both well-known players and nameless rookies, recording every shot they hit. He noted how a swing looked, as well as the result. He watched hundreds of unknowns make the most beautiful swings you have ever seen - then not make the cut. Conversely, Pelz observed countless well-known players who had ugly, peculiar and unconventional swings, yet they struck the ball constantly nearer to the hole. Pelz soon realized the only thing that counted was repeatability through the impact area. This is the number one point Intrinsic Golf makes, "It doesn't matter what a swing looks like - if it's your swing, and it's grooved, and it's repeatable through impact, it is a successful swing!"

Intrinsic Golf is a two-part theory of playing the game that incorporates the following concepts: (1) finding your own swing and playing by feel is easier to learn and repeat than trying to learn and play with someone else's methods and mechanics and (2) that swinging the golf club is easier and more repeatable than hitting at the golf ball.

* First, you must find your own swing - It's within you.
* Second, you must learn to feel your swing.
* Third, you must learn to play without thinking about it. Relax both mentally and physically.
* Finally, have fun. You are playing the game of golf!
