About the Book
A collection of inspiring quotations selected by the author from her gatherings from the early age of 14 onwards.
About the Author
Born and raised in a Scandinavian background, Helen Granat has collected and been inspired by quotations since her early teens. Her earlier books Reflections for Kathryn and Wisdom Through the Ages - Book One have had favorable reviews by several noted personalities. A further interest in music has led to her composing many works for pipe organ, including orchestrations for symphony orchestras. Being the wife of a career naval officer, her travels are reflected in the varied ethnic feelings in her music. The effort has evolved into the publication of two books of Original Compositions for Pipe Organ.

ACTION
The superior man is modest in his speech, but excels in his actions.
- CONFUCIUSFor us is the life of action, of strenuous performance of duty; let us live in the harness, striving mightily; let us rather run the risk of wearing out that rusting out.
- THEODORE ROOSEVELTThe man who has done nothing but wait for his ship to come in has already missed the boat.
- ANONYMOUSBy inwardness alone we do not come close to God. The purest intentions, the finest sense of devotion, the noblest spiritual aspirations are fatuous when not realized in action.
- ABRAHAM JOSHUA HESCHELAction follows conviction, not knowledge.
- PIERRE LeCOMPTE DY NOUYEven if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
- WILL ROGERSNo being can be what he is unless he is putting his essence into action in his field.
- ARNOLD TOYNBEEContent yourself with doing, leave the talking to others.
- BALTASAR GRACIANThought is the seed of action.
- RALPH WALDO EMERSONThe actions of men are the best interpreters of their thoughts.
- JOHN LOCKEIt does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.
- CONFUCIUSThe profit of good action is to have done it.
- SENECAFor anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice.
- JOHN BURROUGHSWe should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing. Action always generates inspiration.
- FRANK TIBOLTDo what you can, with what you have, with where you are.
- THEODORE ROOSEVELTI will act as if what I do makes a difference.
- WILLIAM JAMESActions speak louder than words.
- PROVERBActive natures are rarely melancholy. Activity and sadness are incompatible.
- CHRISTIAN BOVEEWell done is better than well said.
- BENJAMIN DISRAELIIt's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, many not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.
- MAHATMA GANDHIUnselfish and noble actions are the most radiant pages in the biography of souls.
- DAVID THOMASGreat actions are sometimes historically barren; smallest action have taken root in the moral sail and grown like banana forests to cover whole quarters of the world.
- THOMAS CARLYLEADVERSITY
There is nothing so bitter that a patient man cannot find some solace for it.
- MARCUS ANNAEUS SENECAThat which does not kill me makes me stronger.
- FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHEYou will never be the person you can be if pressure, tension and discipline are taken out of your life.
- DR. JAMES BILKEYLet me embrace thee, sour adversity, for wise men say it is the wisest course.
- WILLIAM SHAKESPEAREOh, my friend, it's not what they take away from you that counts - it's what you do with what you have left.
- HUBERT HUMPHREY, after cancer surgery
