About the Book

As the candy maker's daughter announces her engagement to Nicholas, her father makes her a beautiful candy bonnet to count down the days to her wedding. One piece of candy is to be eaten daily until all that is left are the ribbons and bows. The bonnet shall then be worn as she rehearses her wedding vows. Each day Anna opens the cedar chest where the bonnet is kept and eats one piece candy. When she opens the chest one day, she discovers the bonnet is missing. With great sadness, the engagement is called off. As the candy maker is so troubled by his daughter's sadness, he stops making the candy and closes the shop. Read on to discover what happened to the bonnet. Who is the mystery man that Anna will meet in the story? Will the candy shop ever reopen?


About the Author

Jim Hicks is an educator living in Oregon with his wife and 2 daughters. During his career teaching children, he has discovered a love for books that appeal to young audiences. Although published with poetry that he has written for his family, as well as for an educational magazine for bilingual educators, he has always wanted to collaborate with his wife to put together a picture book. The Legend of the Candy Bonnet is intended to model to the children he teaches that anyone can write and be a published author. Although fictional, this story has real meaning to his family. A "candy bonnet" is made for each member of the family as they become engaged. in this way, a legend is brought to life. One day his own daughters will be wearing a candy bonnet of their own.
