About the Book

Have you ever wanted to know more about various aspects of theatre? Acting in Stages has short chapters focusing on technique, terminology and technical aspects of theatre as well as giving an overview of many theatre genres. Following each chapter are puzzles to help the reader understand the foundations of theatre. For drama educators, the material may be used as homework to supplement classroom studies and completion of the puzzles may be used as quizzes to assess comprehension. Chapters and puzzles are great substitute material too. For those drama speaicialists not in a classroom, the puzzles are a great way to keep actors occupied while waiting to work in rehearsals. Acting in Stages is a great resource for any person who wants to know more about theatre.



About the Author

Alyson Brown works in many areas of theatre: directing, teaching, costuming, choreographing, performing and festival adjudicating. She is the President of the Middle School Division of the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild (as well as being on the Board of Trustees) and was instrumental in establishing a middle school component to the Guild. She works full time as a middle school drama teacher who also directs/teaches for children's theatres in the Boston area. In the summer of 2000, she and her students represented the United States at the World Festival of Children's Theatre in Toyama City, Japan where there were participants from 27 countries showcasing the world's best children's theatre. In 2001, Alyson was the delegate to the Congress of the International Theatre Association in Monaco where she was the advocate for children and youth theatre from the United States. She has attended festivals, presented workshops and studied theatre in Japan, China, Germany, Canada, Austria, Italy, Monaco and all over the USA. Alyson worked with the Massachusetts Department of Education to write the Theatre Educator Licensure Exam. Alyson and her husband, Ken, have just welcomed their first child, Kenneth, into their lives.
