About the Book

Chocolate Moose is a captivating and humorous children's story in rhyme. The colorfully illustrated story is about a child who finds difficulty in trying to choose his first pet. On his adventures and imaginative walk to the pet store he discovers that happiness comes from simpler things in life. Ultimately his choice of which pet he will take home is based on that discovery.

Chocolate Moose is a great read-aloud story that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. It gives us a sense of the endlessly creative vision of the child's mind and how these images provide a wonderful expression of the world around us.


About the Author

Shonika Proctor is a silly grown up who wishes that one day her mommy would allow her to get a Chocolate Moose as a pet. Her mommy says she can have a Chocolate Moose when she gets a little bigger and can walk it by herself!

Shonika likes to create stories and make them rhyme. She also likes teaching and learning from children. In 1995 she founded the company Computer Babies Inc. which provided computer training for children ages 2-10. She taught children as young as three how to read big kids books all by themselves. Shonika is also author of Double Click On This: Preschoolers and Computers which is a very interesting book that teaches grown ups how to teach children by using the computer.

When Shonika is not writing she loves to read, volunteer, travel around the world, sail on big boats, create scrapbooks and play kickball. she lives in Washington, D.C. with her pootie-tootie named Patrick. He is also a silly grown up. He helps her edit her books and think of funny ideas for her books.

About the Illustrator

Jerry Houston Jr. is a native of Chicago, IL. Born in 1954, he still considers himself a big child at heart. He loves drawing, cartoons, and playing practical jokes. Chess, backgammon and sports are his pastimes that he truly enjoys and which makes him the competitive and vibrant guy that he is. Because of his easy going nature he can easily get along with a diverse group of people. Jerry recently completed service at Americorp as a camp counselor because on of his greatest pleasures is serving and making a difference in the community. Morality and integrity are the foundation of teaching and which he received from his family members. Jerry is married and enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Pam and his wonderful and loving children Bernice, Tasha, Vernon, Erika, Jerry and Princess. He is also the granddad of 6 grandchildren.
