About the Book

A fun read for anyone fascinated with what's revealed in handwriting; analyzing the dominate writing strokes' trait meanings, and the attendant life situations. Requests for this kind of book emanated from a series of entertaining and informative lectures onboard three major cruise lines over the past four years and from many business, civic, and church groups of the past twenty years. Bold facing the named traits in the subjects' analyses and identifying the corresponding writing strokes of each subject, plus appendix aids to "Quick" analysis makes this an ideal book for the beginning student.

The Author's Quick Analysis Offer,

Josh Batchelder will provide a "quick analysis" of your writing. Preferred sample is done with ballpoint pen on a plain(unlined) 8 1/2" x 11" paper , on a pad, in cursive writing strokes (any subject, about 3 paragraphs), plus customary signature. The analysis will be the subject's dominate personality traits.
For your "quick analysis" send $5.00(US) and proof of                                                                                                    purchase in a postage paid return envelope to:

Comments About the Book

This is an ideal book for the novice in handwriting analysis. The chapter titles are clever and grab attention. The traits in bold type make it easy to identify the meaning of writing strokes. The book is fun to read and easy to follow. Most importantly, it is accurate.

Elois S. Barrett, C.G.A. Certified Graphoanalyst (1973)
Columbia, South Carolina

Colorful characters and the author's benevolent interest in their failures, foibles, and successes are among the special qualities of this book.

Nancy Elizabeth Sephton, Editor and Author
Berkeley, California

I found Mr. Batchelder's presentation through example to be both instructional and entertaining. As a student of handwriting analysis I found that I absorbed the principles without even trying.

Mike Goodman, Bike Shop Owner
Atlanta, Georgia

This unique collection of handwriting specimens and their accompanying analyses will provide, for those new this art, a fascinating inside look at the theory and complexity of the art of handwriting analysis.

The author, Joshua Batchelder...ever a gregarious, optimistic, and enthusiastic student of human behavior, gathers a book full of interesting people and makes them even more interesting by his careful attention to their unique personalities as revealed through their handwriting.

Amazon five star review

Reviewer: Harold Buehl from Norcross, GA USA

Ever wonder if your business partner is on the up and up? Is that fellow you're dating for real or does he possess other traits that might not be so pleasing? Josh Batchelder's book delves into the mysteries of graphology, the unique science of handwriting analysis.

The book is made richer by the use of real life examples. The author guides you through each handwriting sample and teaches you how perform a mini-analysis based on certain common traits. The handwriting samples range from the humorous to the extremely blunt (Parking Lot Rage). You'll learn the basics of Stroke Direction, Global/Universal Traits and the myriad of information you can glean just from the letter "T."

I recommend the book as an entertaining and educational read

    FOREWARNED

Some of the characters you'll meet: In Marry This Man? we'll begin with a flamboyant, egotistical architect writing a note to a girl who showed it to me and asked me about the wisdom of dating him.

For contrast, we'll look behind a screen to see Becka's personality; she is a reticent talented librarian whose music is perfectly pleasing. Low-key in her dress and manner, she is unusual, a Pearl in a Shell!

Katy, in Home Runs and Humor, is a fun-loving paralegal, a people person. She is physically active and desires to be where the action is, whether it's hitting homers in softball games or involving herself in the office politics of a legal litigation firm.

Barbara in Tear It Up and Start Again, born into a circus family, presents a complete show of perfection in her precision and rhythm. Her unique combination of traits will provide a specimen that's worth studying.

Heather Worry Wort, newly married, is busy interacting socially and concerned with the here and now.

    J. Henry in A Strong West Wind is "winging his way" through life full of energy, enthusiasm, impulsiveness and empathy. He has ventured far and wide and has an opinion on just about everything!

If you are not yet convinced that the handwritings of the above characters are distinctively different for good reason, in We're all Different, we'll visit a 5th grade classroom where we'll present samples from the forty-two students' cursive writings on "lined" paper stroking individual "Thank You" notes for a field trip to an air base. Despite intensive training in the Palmer method of handwriting you'll still observe different strokes, slants, heights, weightings, loops and margins that depart from the guidelines they are being taught to follow.

We all know that the world has sick people as well as healthy. In Parking Lot Rage you'll get a picture of a sarcastic, angry, paranoid specimen. Don W. entered the parking lot and penned intense venomous strokes on a windshield note to a patron who wasn't parked perfectly between the marked white lines. Was his rage due to deep unresolved feelings from past hurts?

Ruth Rigid, in Caution, Careful... is a medical administrator with numerous "hesitant" strokes throughout her unusual writing pattern. What does she reveal about her philosophical liberal/conservative views?

People form "strokes" with their writing instruments that are "accented" differently depending on the subject, person or situation they are writing to or about. Over time, they may change their "strokes" (personality traits) and give us a window, for example, to their degree of empathy, feelings, and defenses. To illustrate these changes, in Head to Heart we'll show you a three-time divorcee, Louise "The Squeeze." Early in her relationship with a widower friend she writes in a "cool headed" fashion. Ten months later we will see her more emotional "slant" as she pens a from-the-heart birthday note.

Jacob in Real or Counterfeit is an enigma. I have taken him out of the 19th Century world and examined his handwriting; I've explored his special talents. I've thought about the pressures of his family, work and money problems. His solution was the use of his special talents that landed him in a federal prison.

As I highlight these and other examples of intense traits (strokes), you will begin to look at the writings of others and your own to see the real persons' most prominent traits: We are using these unique strokes to help you see personalities through the window of writing, even though this will not be in a comprehensive, balanced way, as only the experienced analyst would. The trained handwriting analyst can organize and determine meaningful profiles that describe the subject's unique mental and emotional make-up without personally meeting the subject. So, the professional can comprehensively deal with historical figures, ancestors, loved ones and associates in a valid balanced way.

Let's have some fun as we examine the cast of characters chosen to help you gain more insight about your own circle. You'll come to appreciate their fine qualities. And, I'll prepare you for some out-of-balance personalities to help you recognize and deal with unpleasant or unexpected behaviors.

    SUBJECT 1
MARRY THIS MAN? - (Mr. "X")

Pat, a young executive assistant asks about dating Mr. "X". He's a flamboyant successful architect. He lives an exciting life of travel, consulting and designing inspiring edifices. My analysis: He possesses, in spades, all the talent needed for success in his unique specialization. Huge ego shows in the large letters 1; will power, in the heavy t-crossbars; and imagination in his high above-the-baseline loops. Note his l's, h's, and t's. His rhythm, determination, directness, and showmanship are other traits that help him create his imaginative designs. You will see showmanship in the embellishments of his stroke markings.

His contagious enthusiasm2 (evident in the long t-crossbars) will persuade clients to buy his concepts and plans. He's an imaginative soul (it's in-the-loops) as seen in l's, t's (the work area of ones life); however, these loops in t's also mean that he's likely to be easily offended (i.e. paranoia) by criticism of his work; and the loops in d's (the personal side of his life). This means that his imagination takes comments about his person far beyond any well-meaning remarks.

In another aspect, his highly penetrating strokes (above the baseline) indicate a continual search for "new" material (questions, concepts and rich experiences) to enhance his work.

Self-reliance (doubly so) is in two underlinings, is very great; and determination is evident in the lengthy straight down strokes in his 'y's. There are other traits, like excellent rhythm3 (consistent spacing between his letters and words), and, an "ace" for any person, his intuition seen in his word "totally" (breaks between letters). Now that we've proved he must be very successful, professionally; what will guarantee he's a comfortable compatible companion for our young executive assistant, Pat?

Pat's friend charges out-of-the-gate-like-a-bull; Pat had better be strong enough to "cage" this heavy, intense creature that harbors many deep feelings. Don't count on them fading fast either (see the heavy down pressure4 in his writing strokes). This means that all sensory experience will remain for a long time. So, one sunny day you're riding down the coast with him and some sight, sound, or smell reminds him of a negative interpersonal event. Don't be surprised if an angry outburst occurs. How do we know this? Well, his most common slant of "strokes", up to 30% right of vertical, represent unexpressed feelings which can accumulate until they reach the breaking point, like a dam that breaks! So, if it's anger, watch out! Even though his larger writing indicates a mostly gregarious personality.

So, Pat has a man whose high goals are all achievable (the t-crossbars are all on his t-stems). He has high energy5 and the combination of traits that would place him above most in his profession. Now, notice where he wills that they "someday meet totally" with heavier t-crossbar (remember will power) than the other t-crossbars. Here's an example of added emphasis coming out stronger than his other strong willed t-crossbars. Very few companions could ever expect to do anything but yield to this overpowering personality. Consequently, I told Pat you must decide if you're willing to support and yield to this never dull man in return for the likely expansive life of luxury surrounded by distinctive designs of inspiring spiritual edifices. Keeping him as an exciting interesting friend may be a much safer option.

This is a good example of an instances where I advise my clients to stand back and observe behavior of their "intended" amongst family, friends and colleagues; because over a period of a year or two your intended's behavior with others will be what you will experience too.

    2See Appendix F "t" strokes.
    3See Appendix D rhythm.
    4See Appendix D -pressure/depth of sensory experiences.
