Excerpts
Chapter Four
The Role of Faith: God Never Fails
Faith is the decision to apply God's Word to your life. Faith is also the decision to believe that God's Word is true. It is also the belief that spiritual truth, God's Word and spiritual reality are higher truths and higher realities than simply what appears to our five senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste (our natural world).
In other words, God says you were healed when He died on the cross. If you choose to believe that you were healed and therefore you are healed, you are moving in faith and believing that God's words (or promises) will appear in your circumstances. This is all it takes for you to believe and to start using your faith -- especially if you are following the first steps in the book. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for but not seen (Hebrews 1:11).
This may be hard for some to understand, so I will use, as an example, a simple case of the sniffles. First of all, you do not see your nose stop running and then believe that God will make it stop. You decide to believe that God will make it stop because His Word said to you that He would. Once you decide to trust and trust that He will stop your nose from running, you must keep trusting God no matter how many days your nose keeps running.
This trusting period (while your nose keeps running) is when God will teach you patience and trust and teach you to grow stronger in your trust of Him no matter what your nose does.
What He teaches you during this trusting period is what God really wants you to learn from living by faith. He knows you will have victory. At some point, your nose will quit running. You will have learned to trust the scripture that says you are healed. That scripture will have become real in your life. You will have learned that God does do what that written sentence in the Bible says he will do.
In learning to use faith, in this area of breaking curses and breaking the hold of feelings and thoughts that are demonic, you must decide that God says you can break a curse. God says you can resist the devil. God says if you resist the devil, he will flee.
You will believe that God says you can win over the mountains. You are going to trust Him to show you how to break a curse. You are going to trust Him that when you pray the prayer in Chapter One (based on His Word that says Jesus set you free) that God backs that Word in the spiritual kingdom and you are free. That freedom will appear in your thoughts and feelings. While you are waiting for that freedom, the Holy Spirit will teach you about God's patience and faithfulness and how much to watch God's Word come into your life. Most of all, you will learn to trust God when He says you are a new creature (more about that in Chapter Five).
Learning to trust God when you use your faith is a growing process. It pleases God when you choose to approach Him by faith and to live by faith in His Word rather than what you see. There are many principles in this process, such as how it develops patience, how it produces long suffering, how to understand God's timing, and how to proclaim you faith, that are too extensive to cover here.
Find a faith church* in your area and get some tapes on how to apply faith and exactly how faith works. Then listen to those tapes over and over again. They will feed you on the Word and will strengthen your resolve to overcome darkness. You may not agree with everything in your Betty Crocker Cookbook, but you still open it for the basics of cooking.
* Note: God has specialty churches in His body of churches and the whole body together brings healing. When you need specialty knowledge, find the part of God's body that moves in that area.
Some basic principles of faith include the fact that when Jesus died 2,000 years ago, He provided everything you would ever need for overcoming the devil. He provided -- in advance -- for your specific healing needs! He provided in advance -- for your specific financial needs! He paid -- in advance -- for ever sin you would every commit, and called you by name while He did it! He defeated every devilish attack that would ever come to you -- in advance! When He died on the cross, He gave you all these blessings at that time -- in advance! (Isaiah 53:5, II Timothy 3:17)
Jesus then went to heaven and said to you in the great commission: "Cast out Devils!" He gave you power over all the enemy. Now, use it! It is like your boss giving you the power and authority to hire and fire. So, let's say that the first time you needed to hire someone you went to your boss and said, "Would you hire them?" his answer would be "Don't come ask me. I already gave you that power and authority -- use it and do it yourself!"
As we grow in the processes listed in the first three chapters, we are exercising the authority and power Jesus gave us to take back every area of our lives from the devil's control (or Adam nature) to God's control (the new creature). Not that your boss wouldn't back you if you hired and fired - You could not do it if he did not give you his power -- but rather, that he asked you to do it. That is exactly what Jesus did for you! He said, "You have the power to tell the devil to leave so what I gave you can be yours." (Note: This is the same poser and authority Jesus used to defeat all the demons in hell after he was crucified. He gave it to us when he transcended into heaven so we would never be victims to the devil again).
Okay. How do you tell the devil to leave you? You do not say, "Dear God, please make him leave" or "Dear God, please give me what your Word says." Instead, you say, "Devil (or hate or anger -- be specific), God told me I have the power of Jesus, and He defeated you and paraded you through the heavenlies as defeated. Now by His power and by His blood on Calvary, I command you to loose and be gone and I cast you out" NOW GO!" You are firing him as you were told to do!
It is not the devil's choice whether or not he leaves. He is the subject of God's Word. The only reason he might not leave is if he still had legal territory in you life to be there. Is a curse unbroken? A memory unhealed? Is there another spirit that works with that force still present? Is there a way you are still believing his lies over God's Word? If these areas are still open, the force to whom you are talking does not have to leave. You must start exercising your authority!
For example: your are tired of hate. You tell it to leave by using the prayer (generationally, taking away it's legal rights to you). You have started trusting God that two things will happen: (1) hate will leave and (2) God will not quit teaching you until every legal territory in you is broken, and hate, you must leave." And hate will leave.
From that time on, when you see hate, you will have authority over it. You will be stronger because you will know your authority in God's Kingdom and you will know that God always brings victory. It is worth the battle to have power over that bondage.
Foreword
It is with thanks that this book is written. Thanks be to God for giving us His Son and for sending us His Holy Spirit that we might be fully equipped and fully knowledgeable for every battle we encounter.
It is with thanks to God's anointed ministers who have fed us over the years and whose special words of knowledge are incorporated in various places throughout this book. They include Kenneth Copeland, Judson Cornwall, Frank Hammond, Hobart Freeman, Calder Kinney, Bill Ligon, Don Corder, Win Worley and Elbert Willis, among others.
I cannot leave out thanks to my special sister in the Lord, Sandra Malmberg, who first taught me that God's Word is always true and is the solid rock on which we lean.
I also give thanks to the many people who gave me the privilege of counseling with them, and guiding them, as they discovered solutions by taking their problems to the Dove.
I cannot forget Carole MacKenzie and Sandra Mayerhoff, among others, who willingly devoted their time to some basic copy editing of the manuscript and who spent many hours typing and re-typing this manuscript so that God's word could be shared.
Special thanks to Damon Barnes for his beautiful cover art.
As you can see, many people have had a hand in making this book a reality. My children, and their children, deserve special thanks, and extra prayers, for paying the price along with me to gain the knowledge contained in these books.
May the Dove bless you all!
