About the Book

This book is as much a part of the Santa Clause Folk Lore as, "The Night Before Christmas", or "Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer". Is there a little boy or girl who has been taught the mythology of Good Old Saint Nick who when away from home at Christmas Time doesn't wonder if Santa will find their stocking at their temporary address> And, when he does, how did he know how to find them?

Parents, teachers, and librarians will welcome this poetic explanation that all can share. Children will cherish its message, enjoy watching for Christy, The Christmas Bird, and love the eye-catching illustrations. Predictably, it will find a permanent place in pre-schools and kindergarten classrooms, school and public libraries, as well the children's book collections around the world.

Trial test of this poem with children, parents, teachers and librarians and children's doctors have verified that it is a true legend, which belongs in any home where young children wonder about the mysteries of fairy tales that fire their budding imaginations. Having it read to them, (in words they can easily understand) and being able to view the remarkable illustrations by Lori Musil, a world renowned children's artist, will make travelling away from hoe to see grandparents, or to visit far-off places more pleasant since they will not be worried about whether Santa will find them on Christmas Eve.

The poem Christy, The Christmas Bird with its dynamic illustrations will help children to recognize good poetry and fine art. Parents and teachers will find the book a valued contrast to much of the chaff that is found in too many children's books that are on the market today.

Yes, it is a "fairy tale" fiction that children will outgrow as they do belief in Santa Claus himself. But as they do, they will cherish it as one of the building blocks to appreciation of the best in literature and artistic creations.

About the Author

Dr. Lindley J. Stiles is one of the world's most versatile writer and poets. Known as one of the Twentieth Century's leading social thinkers and educators, his children's book of verses, Moods and Moments has been called the equal to the work of the famous English poet, A. A. Mine. Other books Moods and Moments, People and Places, as well as individually published poems mark him as a poet who should not be missed by children.

The author is noted for challenging teachers to teach poetry better to young children. His verse speaking technique, (called choral reading in which children read lyric poems in unison) was featured in his article, What Should We Do About Teaching Poetry in Our Schools published in the English Journal and quoted in a number of books on teaching English.

Listed in more than thirty Who's Who type bibliographical reference works, fourteen of which have been dedicated to him, he has been classified as a "Living Legend" by the International Biographical Center, in Cambridge, England, for his definition of teaching as the "Preeminent Profession" because it nourishes all others and the total of human endeavors. There fore, he argues that "The Best Should Teach". Royalties from this and his other books go to support the distribution of this social wisdom around the world. Thus, parents, teachers, librarians, councelors and doctors who make Christy, The Christmas Bird available to children who are in the wonderment years, introduced them to an author who is highly regarded and will long be remembered.

Born and reared on New Mexico, USA cattle ranches, Dr. Stiles considers that his professional world-class career was anchored in his boyhood experiences in learning to be a cowboy. He graduated from the Farmington, NM High School which elected him as one of the first members of its Academic Hall of Fame. Fort Leis College named him as one of its three Alumni of the Century and The University of Colorado at Boulder awarded him three degrees, the AB, MA and ED.D. and it coveted University Medal. Rider College, McKendree College and the College of William and Mary awarded him Honorary Doctor's Degrees. The U.S. Air Force Association gave him its Hoyt S. Vandenberg Trophy for his efforts to move school curriculums into the Air and Space Age.
