Sample Excerpts or Table of Contents

- Summer -

"In here minutes can hold a lifetime
and hours contain more beauty than words
could ever express."

- This I can promise -

Before the oceans break the shore with their final breath
and the sky falls from its placing in Heaven...I will see this through with you.
If the infamous sun burns out giving way to nightfall
and the stars slip from their hinges
I will not grow weary,
for I found more in you than anything I've ever known,
ever seen with these heavy eyes
or tasted with these fragile lips
that yearn to taste yours once again...

- Goodnight 67 -

These thoughts of you hang like lonely pictures in my mind,
longing to be surrounded with more than delicate images
that caress my heart in these vivid dreams.

I find you beneath the surface of a 3 a.m. coma
only to be pulled away from your arms
by the sharp kiss of sunrise.
As the day progresses
and the hours slip from my palms
twilight whispers of daylight's final minutes,
so I fall upon fresh sheets
and pillows to see you once again.

Colors that can't even be found in books illuminate above us,
but they only fade when placed beside you
and the water that always surrounds us runs like veins
tracing back to the day our paths first crossed.
Water as clear as second sight
and skies bluer than what God first intended stretch for miles around.

So now I know when I say goodnight
it only means hello...

- The voice on the other line -

Racing to see you
I leave the world behind
watching the minutes fall to nothing
but a glimpse of yesterday.

The concern for tomorrow no longer weighs on my shoulders
for news from a distance awakens my heart
from a slumber only the ages can interpret,
now the heavy stone of "what if" I've danced with for so long
crumbles to dust in my hands.

As the horizon embraces my anticipation
I find that memories of us,
once a vivid slide-show in my mind
remain untarnished,
preserved deep within my heart
hoping for that voice on the other line
to pour out over them as it once did...

- Empty pillowcases and sleepless nights -

The stale curtains that once weeped for your touch
and the pillowcases that yearned to be filled with something more
than the smell of your skin,
now live in the shadows of yesterday.

The golden hum that ignites this room
reminds me you're here again
and now sleeping is a foreign task,
for I would rather lie awake
and watch the moonlight dance across your skin
than sleep another night without you...
