About the Author
Lori Rubin has been a makeup artist in Beverly Hills, California for the past 22 years. After attending the University of Arizona, where she was active in the film and drama department, she made her way to Los Angeles to fulfill her hunger to act. She realized however that being a well-known waitress and an unknown actress was causing her even more hunger. So being level headed, she went on to become a makeup artist to royalty, celebrities, and a lovely mix of clients, who have been supportive and have become long time friends. Lori views her parents, who are Arizona based, as incredible and supportive parents, whom she deeply respects and loves. Lori*s passion for poetry started at age 10, and just kept going as a life long project. The poems in this book were written from age 14 until the present. Physical fitness is a huge part of her life. Grateful to be the (single parent) mother of Shylee, who keeps Lori going in every way, and prays for the health and happiness of her loved ones everyday.

INTRODUCTION
Many of you who read these pages will assume that everything written is from all of my own lifetime's experiences. Well, maybe 50% of this book is. I have a vivid imagination and listen to other people's stories. Imagining myself in their place and their experiences, I am able to come up with poems in character as other people. I love to do this. It takes me out of my own emotions and lets me feel someone else's. I also make up fictional characters and write as if I were them. Poetry is so personal and hard to understand for the most part. So I am hoping if you are reading my book that is clear for you and not too way out there.
Poetry has always been the best way for me to express myself and has helped me through some rough times.
Thank you for participating in my world.
I have a rule not to defend myself against negative opinions. Art is subjective. If a thousand people read the same thing, that's how many opinions you will have. So in light of that, I hope you appreciate my heart and soul on paper. If you don't, it's okay. It's not my passion to play into it; it is my passion to write it for myself, and now for all of you to see.

Come Find Me
I know you're out there.
You're searching for me.
I'm not hiding,
ready for love,
I dare you
come find me.Have we already met?
Did I overlook my destiny?
Will our paths cross
and we'll just know?
One of those rare fluky things.I used to go looking
for the man of my dreams.
I'd come home tired and
depressed, I started hating me.
Waking up every morning,
going through the motions,
same old routine.
Get to bed every night
feeling bitter and mean. Finally got over the whole
I want a man thing.
My life started to blossom
the minute
I stopped looking.
All of the sudden I'm
desirable and exciting.
Do you feel my essence?
I feel you trying to find me.I know you're out there.
You're searching for me.
I'm not hiding.
Ready for love,
I dare you
come find me.On Account of You
My world just got better,
it all turned around.
Head up in the clouds,
feet glued to the ground.
I was lost, damaged, abused.
Just barely existed,
but now I do.
All on account of you.Nothing mattered to me.
Since birth, life's been an evil trick,
A brutal parody.
The rough cruel things
I've had to go through.
Well that's in the past,
those dark secrets,
they're true.As strong as I was
that's how frail I was.
The struggle of living
of just getting through.
I lied when I laughed,
I laugh real with you.
A new stage of life.
Grateful for the rest.
I've imagined all my days
of feeling cheerful not down.
Impossible it seems,
when pain's all consuming.
But the hurt is gone and
my pictures come true.
All on account of you.
I Want to Save Her
Under aged, stripping clothes off on the stage.
Dark bar, men howling,
there's money to be made.
Hot and sexy, her self-esteem is raised.
Only for a moment,
her life I wouldn't trade.I want to save her, what's her name?
A victim of her teens.
A young girl without means.
She uses her body sensually
to give men their fantasies.Time to go, she packs up
and leaves her cage.
Drives home, smokes and cries feeling aged.
Demoralized and feeling dirty.
At seventeen in so much pain.I want to save her, what's her name?
I found her last night in the street.
Looked into her eyes,
still crying,
looked so beat.
What's your name, I want to save you.
Call me Jane is all she said to me.I've lost my mind
to try to change this kind.
It happens all the time.
But not to me.Sunday Morning
My nine-year-old child
woke me up
early on Sunday,
and claimed to be depressed.
A little girl with big brown eyes,
and a very old soul.
Such a young age,
to feel stressed. She asked for my advice.
That made feel flattered.
So I listened carefully,
with an open mind,
because this really mattered. Her best friend hurt her feelings.
She felt disappointment,
betrayal, and anger.
She wanted to be respected.
But of course
you cannot make her.I looked at her with kindness.
Amazed by her innocence and
beauty.
She was searching for an answer.
I said this one is easy.We are all having one perfection,
and that is, we are all
perfectly imperfect.
You have to know that people
will always disappoint you
if you expect them to be the
way that you want them to be.
You can call her and
explain how you feel.
Tell her what you told me
in a loving way.
Hope she understands with your
kindness and communication.
Then let it go, with forgiveness,
because we are all learning lessons
in life, and this is one of yours. She understood and her eyes
beamed with gratefulness.
She said thanks mom,
I love you!!!With all of life's imperfections.
That was truly a perfect moment.
