About the Book

This book biblically proves the existence of demons in the past and present tense. The author gives many examples of demon presence in the day to day life of Christians and describes some religions led by Satan and his demons.

About the Author

Dr. Keith Nesbitt, Sr., author/counselor/preacher, tells it like it is in his most recent work, Demonology: Past and Present. In this volume, Dr. Nesbitt addresses a topic avoided by most preachers and counselors because of their lack of knowledge, understanding, and in many cases, courage. Although the subject of demonology is unpopular with most Christians, it is one that must be dealt with from the pulpits of today's churches.

Dr. Nesbitt heads the New Life Counseling Center in Marion, NY, and is an evangelist with Karate for Christ Ministries. Dr. Nesbitt holds a doctorate degree in theology from Faith Bible Theological Seminary and a doctorate degree in psychology from Southern Indiana Bible College.

Introduction

Critics of the Bible and deniers of the supernatural have for centuries refuted the existence of demons and their ability to possess and control human beings. Even many who rightfully credit the Bible as God's Word come short of accepting it as fact (whether historical or prophetical), claiming that its numerous accounts of demon expulsion by the Lord Jesus Christ were merely symbolic illustrations of his power over the evil of this world. Still other Bible scholars reduce real instances of demon possession, as presented in the synoptic gospels, to religious superstition; they imply they Jesus intervened only to quell the neurotic condition of the "possessed". Today, countless cases of demonic influence and possession have been witnessed by preachers, missionaries, and ministry workers, particularly in pagan areas where demon worship is practiced and imbedded in the culture of these societies. In the United States, demonic activity is evidenced by the horrific crimes, unnatural acts, and immoral and beastly practices that we read about daily in the morning newspaper or witness on the evening news; it's prevalence today is far more widespread than even fifty years earlier, suggesting that the "powers and principalities" of this world are ever-increasing their sphere of influence. Religious bedlam is rampant today - unprecedented interest in fortune-telling, astrology, and spiritualism demonstrates how countless false religions and religious teachers spread lies to a lost society who look for anything to justify their thoughts and behavior.

To dismiss or deny the presence of demons is to question the authority of Scripture, the diety of Jesus Christ, and the integrity of His apostles. My purpose in this book is not only to establish the truth of demon presence in the world today, but to demonstrate their vast numbers, the scope of their power and strength, and ultimately to detail their eventual doom through the power of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit in the Christian life. Millions of Christians seem completely unaware of the continuous battle we fight with these emissaries of Satan, nor appreciate the variety of means by which they attack our lives. Depression and discouragement work to debilitate our walk with Christ, and these conditions are due solely to demonic influence. In our efforts to be faithful Christian soldiers, we must realize that if we are to effectively fight the battle for God against the "prince of this world", and to live sanctified and victorious lives for Him, we must understand that we "wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Eph. 6:12). No one can begin to comprehend the moral corruption , religious confusion, and pervasive apostacy of our time without properly considering the presence, vast numbers, and very nature of demons. My prayer is that this book will help the reader to put on the whole armor of God "that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" (Eph. 6:11).
