About the Book
This effort is a "mind tweaker" rather than a "page turner". Read a few lines or a page and, if you wish, pause to consider. Return to it tomorrow or in a week. The notions I wrote over two decades ago apply today and comments written only weeks before the book's publication certainly should have occurred to me a lifetime ago. I sincerely hope you enjoy the experience. JCC.
About the Author
Mr. Courtney attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN and The University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. He has lived and worked in Indiana, Minnesota, Kentucky and Florida. He has been a resident of Michigan for thirty-five years and is a retired businessman. He has written biographies, poetry, essays and short stories yet to be prepared for publication. He now works exclusively at that task. This is his second published book.
Reader Responses
"I read two or three pages each night before bedtime and I absolutely love it!"
"I know that everybody who has this book will enjoy it; cover to cover."
"I enjoy his thoughts and the beautiful way he expresses them."
"I shall take pleasure in reading this book over and over."
Excerpts
"It is not enough to be a handsome and convivial suitor. To whom you wish to be the mother of your children, you must present yourself as a model for the man she would choose to be the father of hers."
"War begins before the first shot is fired and does not end until all veterans of that conflict are dead. Almost every generation has its wars. It seems hard to squeeze a bit of peace in between the spaces."
"There are some invitations extended in such a manner as to be correctly regarded as rejections."
"When Judgement Day comes I will not ask for justice. (One cannot fool the Judge!) I plan to beg for mercy. I am even now composing my plea."
"The wisest men I know were each a fool for something: women, booze, gambling, fishing, hunting or golf. I was a fool for everything. Thank God I have acheived decrepitude and thereby set aside all my vices."
"Every scientific breakthrough carries with it the destruction of one or two demigods. Often yesterday's firm belief becomes today's irrelevant fable."
