About the Book

Annabelle loves her heart-shaped birthmark until some children at school make fun of her because she is different. Then something happens which makes her realize how truly wonderful it is to be unique!

"Annabelle's Birthmark" was written by an elementary school counsellor to be used by parents, teachers, and counselors who hope to instill compassion and tolerance in children. This book includes a lesson plan for grades K-6 as well as several related activities that can be done with small groups or whole classrooms. There is also an Annabelle paper doll that can be reproduced, cut out and colored.

For those who like to use literature to teach life's important lessons to children, this is a fun, upbeat, and slightly whimsical story, complete with a classroom lesson and activities that will help reinforce the message that it is okay to be different.
