About the Book
Welcome to the launch of a brand new and innovative approach to technology. Children can now enjoy the value of computing through play. The shared expertise of two professionals has created a unique land filled with colourful characters that children of all ages will want to read about. The characters depicted in the book bring computing to life and teach in an unassuming format which children will find enthralling. Each character is based upon a piece of equipment (hardware), and is introduced in an amusing manner through story telling enabling children to grasp a basic knowledge of how they work. The style of writing is very much aimed at the 3-7 year old where older children could be encouraged to read the book unaided, and younger ones could enjoy just listening to the stories. ICT is an area which is covered by many people but from our experience most of the manuals and books are activity based with little emphasis on what the parts of a computer are actually for. It is a proven fact that if a child is told why something happens they are more able to understand the processes required later on. Our book is a foundation on which to build. The idea is simple, the appeal is immediate and the outcome is positive. This initial book introduces six main characters (printer, mouse, hard drive, monitor, keyboard and a Professor who is in charge!) The writing is simple but effective and is enhanced with lively illustrations which bring the pieces of computer equipment to life. This is only the beginning of a series of stories from Computer Land and beyond.
