About the Book

Jay Bowers delivers a very positive book about being ready for and waiting to go to Heaven. Each chapter brings to life the visualization of the most positive destination possible: Heaven. As a young boy the author lived a "Tom and Huck" life around the stream that flowed through his grandparent's farm. Going to Heaven: Ready and Wating gives multiple examples of God given guidance during each stage of his life. Filled with humor, sadness, and impossible situations, Going to Heaven: Ready and Wating never loses dignity as it weaves through the possibilities of a better life for the reader as experienced by the author.

About the Author

John 'Jay' Bowers' autobiography is a very positive story of his walk with God. His life is not without disappointment, but with every tragedy or failure, Jesus brought him to new and positive heights.

Jay's life began in a happy home. Happiness ended less than a year later when his parents divorced. He was raised by his mother's loving parents. He called his grandparents Ma and Pa. His upbringing was continued by a Christian aunt and uncle from his father's side of the family.

Jay graduated from high school and married a wondeful Christian lady. World War II changed their lives. Jay served in the Army Air Corps as a ball turret gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator in the Pacific Theater.

Four years after the war ended their home was very happy. The addition of a baby girl in 1949 and a son born unto them in 1951 made their family complete. After forty years of marriage, Jay's wife Betty, was taken to Heaven. A second marriage ended when Mary, his wife of ten years, suffered a sudden and fatal heart attack.

Jay is now married to longtime family friend, the former Marguerite Main. They live in Anderson, Indiana during the summer and in Englewood, Florida during the winter. Jay has always been excited about life and about going to Heaven. He is ready and Waiting.

The Red Umbrella Story

Jesus said: For this is my blood of the new testament,
which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Matthew 26:28

After this explanation of what happened once I got saved, I open the Red Umbrella and I hold it over my head. Then I say, We all know the Bood of Jesus paid the Price for all sin once and for all.

When God looks down upon me he does not see any of my sins, they are covered by the Blood of Jesus.

This example is Very effective.

This is the perfect time for an invitation to be given. My favortie invitational Hymn is "Just As I Am" That's how God wants you and I to come to him, "Just As You Are"

Ten Men And An Airplane

For God hath not given us the Spirit of fear, but of power,
and of love, and of sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Here comes another big surprise. The pilot said, "We all four officers have looked at your records, Jay and have decided to give you a wide angle view position. You will be our ball turret gunner, protecting the entire underneath of the plane."

from

Barney Made It To Heaven

Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life,
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

Barney was my friend. He was a very unusual man. He drank and smoked and was very over-weight. His stomach was so big that he could not see his shoes. Therefore, he could not tie them.

from

Summer Fun For Small And Big Boys

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him
in all things which is the head, even Christ.

Ephesians 4:15

Aunt Mazie and Uncle Charlie had a son named Kenneth. He was a little older than I was. Again, you can see how the Lord was weaving his great love into my life.

from

I Don't Want To Go

For the Lord God will hold thy right hand,
Saying unto thee, fear not, I will help thee.

Isaiah 41:13

1942. The war in progress and I was enjoying my marriage and my first year at Delco Remy. A 'surprise' surprise was sent to me in the mail. It was greetings from my friends, neighbors and Uncle inviting me to the recruiting office at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis.

from

A New Arrival

The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty.
He will save, He will rejoice over thee, with joy,
He will rest in his ove, He will joy over thee with singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

On the sixth day Mrs. Wilson brought the baby to our house. What a day of rejoicing that was for both of us. She was the most beautiful baby girl I had ever seen. Both of our families had been informed and they got a shower party started.

Naming the baby took a lot of discussion. Not knowing if we would get a boy or a girl we had names picked out for both.

from

I'm Retiring At Fifty-Five

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Phillipians 4:13

The Lord had blessed me so much I could hardly believe it. My job at Delco Remy had progressed from being an assembly line worker to a tool foreman.

Why Share With Your Children

That I may cause those that love me, to inherit substance,
and I will fill their treasures.

Proverbs 8:12

Sharing with my children was a good idea. In starting the process of giving to my children several personal things went well. We had accumulated lots of things and I wanted the children to have them. At this time Judy lived in Colorado and Rex and Peggy lived east of Markleville. We divided a lot of it and moved it out of the house. I have always believed in sharing some of their inheritance with them while I'm alive and can enjoyed seeing them benefit from it. I learned this gift of giving from Ma and I believe in it.

Who Said Wait One Year Before Getting Married?

For you have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of
God, ye might receive the promise.
Hebrews 10:36

Why only five months, Lord, before getting married again? This was a big question for me. Old friends who had not lost their mate would say, "You should wait one or two years before getting married." This all sounded like a good idea but after lots of consideration it would not work for me.

from

It's Easy To Marry An Old Friend

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat
and flourishing to show that the Lord is upright.

Psalms 92:14

I now was praying that God would direct me to find the right mate. My prayers were answered through a lady I had known from chruch. This elderly lady was a very giving person. She told me that I shoudl call Mary Dickey. Mary had lost her husband and she was a world traveler. Mary lived on the 109 Bypass in Andreson. She had lived with my wife while we husbands were in the armed forces.

from

Who Is In Charge Of Life

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ, His son cleanseth us from all sins.

I John 1:17

Happiness is the Lord, plus or minus nothing. Have you ever tried to count your best friends? A friend who will help you at a moment's notice because he or she loves you and does not expect to pay or a favor in return is a best friend.

from

A New Beginning And School

How much better is it to get wisdom than gold?
and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver?

Proverbs 16:16

The miracle in my life happened so fast. Ma and I were now alone together. Ma had lost her son, Voil Ritter, in the First World War and I imagine that deep down in her heart I was the God given replacement for her loss.

All family restrictions were canceled when Pa died. My Indian grandmother and her daughter, my Aunt Mazie Foust, came to see me for the first time. However, Dad never came to see me.
