About the Book
Sam is one of eight small ferries (or water taxis) that serve Victoria Harbour in British Columbia. As the newest member of the team he learns his job, including basic nautical terms, transporting people and their parcels, recognizing different kinds of boats, touring the harbour, saving a kayaker and later a baby orca, traveling through fog, and finally earning the chance to "dance" in the Sunday Water Ballet.
His motto for readers is that "Every day is an adventure when you watch, try, learn and do something new." Book is designed for the young of, and visitors to, Victoria as well as for others who want to share a key part of this magical city. Scenes and famous landmarks of Victoria are illustrated throughout book.

Judy Klinger keeps an eye on Victoria harbour's delightful ferries from her kitchen window. Their cheerful skippers work as a team, often treating passengers to local history or poetry and yarns as they crisscross the harbour. Not finding a book on the subject and after speaking with the owners whose goal is "to be the most loved business in Victoria", she was encouraged to write this story in collaboration with her artist son.
Judy is an occupational therapist who has written extensively on self-help in rehabilitation as well as on cooking and travel, sharing authorship of cross-cultural videos and a book on global knapsacking with her husband, Herb. She graduated from Tufts University, Medford, Mass., with a B.Sc. in Ed (1960) and from New York University with an M.A. in O.T. (1963). This is her first children's book. Over the years with her husband, son and daughter, Judy has exercised her enthusiasm for hiking, biking, camping, kayaking and world travel.
Greg has shared his amazing world of critters, creatures and futuristic gizmos with us from when he could first hold a crayon. At age four he illustrated scenes from the family's 10-month trip around the world including South Indian dancers and a brick factory in Portugal. He studied at the Ringling School of Art & Design, Sarasota, FL, and at the San Francisco Academy of Art, CA. He presently works as an artist in California, producing both educational materials and freelance illustrations.
