About the Book
PURPOSE: Book 1 in the 12-book Dart's Mentoring Series provides a resource text to help teachers and other adults facilitate a better understanding of values during a child's developmental years.
TARGET GROUP: Dart's Mentoring Series addresses an elementary school student audience. However, older students may benefit from the principles that are presented in the literary work. Teachers will find this a resource to teach human values.
DESIRED OUTCOMES: The series will provide adults and students with opportunities to relate real-life values. The series will support, enhance and reinforce other mentoring activities. Text will generate ideas and beliefs germane to developing a positive value system.
SUMMARY: In conclusion, the series will produce appropriate, useful and high interest materials to help students, parents and teachers understand of the entire community in the development of positive citizenship. Gemstones have been valued as a symbol for each month. Consequently, these stones are also known as birthstones. Most people hold special emotions about their birth month, a value in itself. Therefore, the use of gemstones to teach the values of each stone give each child's birth month a symbolic value for life experiences. Dart's series begins with the Peridot, the gemstone for August and the traditional month to begin the academic school year. The Peridot is used as a vehicle to convey the values for back-to-school. The series of Dart's gemstones will teach about gems in the context of values for life success.
About the Authors

Recci Patrick earned his Bachelor of Science at Cheyney State University, and his Master's Equivalence at Duquesne University and Penn State University. He has many years of teaching experience at a variety of schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including a State Home for Boys in Jamesburg, New Jersey, and the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf - Edgewood, in Pennsylvania. He currently resides in Denver, Colorado and is co-writing a series of educational Children's books called Dart's Mentoring Series.
Cora Jarvis-Redden received her Administrative Certification from the University of Denver, a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Bachelor of Science from California State University (Pennsylvania). She has taught in Public Schools in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Michigan, Minnesota, and Colorado. She was a College instructor at the Metropolitan State College and an Elementary School Principal. She presently resides in Denver, Colorado where she retired from teaching. She is currently a self-employed Educational Consultant.
