WHAT BETTER SOURCE FOR A CHILD'S STORY -- THAN FROM AN ACTUAL CHILD? I've Lost My Name! came into being when the author's six year-old neighbor complained of having lost her name. Curiosity enticed him into investigating the situation. Together, little Jennifer and he searched under cars, in mailboxes and around and in every corner about the building. After a half-an-hour of diligent hunting, Jenny tired of the game and announced, "Never mind, Fred, I've found it."

"Where?" asked he with feigned surprise.

"Right here!" she exclaimed as she pulled her bangs aside. "I wrote it under my hair before I took my nap!" She laughed heartily.

The author decided right then and there, that this so natural a display of imagination, should be the kind of story that he ought to make into a child's picture book. Hope you'll agree -- by buying a copy.

About the Author

Fred St. Laurent's life really started during the summer of 1938 when he spent much of his time playing spin the bottle with all the little girls in the neighborhood. But the fun was short lived because a category 3 hurricane literally wiped out all the beach properties and the little girls were never to spend summers there again. Tragedy followed tragedy for the family as the author's mother buried her mother, her father and her husband within a short time span. Then she had a hysterectomy and to top that, the author was afflicted with spinal meningitis and pneumonia. To this day St. Laurent cannot understand how she endured it all. Those old enough took part-time jobs, everybody chipped in. With God's guidance, and the many tears of the author's mother, she got them all to adulthood.

St. Laurent is a World War II Navy Veteran who accompanied Admiral Byrd on the 1947 expedition to the South Pole aboard the USS Philippine Seas Aircraft Carrier. He later became Department of Defence employee and served 20 years as a Quality Assurance Representative in the fields of ammunition, general electronics, the HAWK Missile program and Apollo Heat shields. His last three-and-one-half years were spent serving under the Naval Air Systems Command monitoring Top Secret R&D programs involving Electronic & Infra-Red Countermeasures, Communications and other efforts.

Following a course with The Institute of Children's Literature and the death of the author's first wife from cancer, St. Laurent wrote I've Lost My Name! in 1986 but did not succeed in publishing it. His second wife also died from cancer in 1998. And so the book sat in a closet through the years. Now at age 75, he has decided that this little girl's story must come out of the darkness for the world's children to read. She has been punished long enough.
