The Sherlock Holmes stories from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle have been in continuous publication for more than 100 years, loved by generations of readers. They have been adapted (sometimes badly!) for the stage, motion pictures and television.

This book consists of 32 extended excerpts from the Sherlock Holmes stories as Quotation Puzzles (also known as Acrostics). These puzzles are completed by solving definitions and transferring them to the puzzle block which forms the quotation. No knowledge of the stories is required to solve the puzzles.

Uniquely, each Quotation Puzzle includes an introduction which explains the context of the quotation being solved. (See the sample puzzle below)

The book includes a selection of variety puzzles which also relate to the Sherlock Holmes theme.

A special feature is "The Best of Sherlock," a synopsis of the 12 best Sherlock Holmes stories as selected by the author.

Sherlock Holmes Quotation Puzzles Vol. 1 includes:

  • Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson meet in "A Study in Scarlet"

  • A king is the subject of blackmail in "A Scandal in Bohemia"

  • A feared sea captain is murdered in "The Adventure of Black Peter"

  • Sherlock Holmes adopts one of his many disguises in "The Man With the Twisted Lip"

  • A deceitful client is hanged in "The Resident Patient"

  • A fateful encounter occurs with Sherlock Holmes' archenemy in "The Final Problem"

  • Sherlock Holmes practices "mind reading" in "The Adventure of the Dancing Men"

  • In retirement Sherlock Holmes takes up a serious hobby in "His Last Bow"
