Excerpt

Introduction

If you found the fountain of youth; the secret to delay the aging process, controlling your weight, feeling happier and less anxious, sleeping better, and warding off illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes; would you partake of it? Unfortunately, there is no such fountain. The human body is just another part of the universe that is meant to be in perfect balance. We have been constructed in such a way that we need just so much exercise, no more and no less. We need just so much food of certain types. And we need just the right amount of sleep and relief from the tensions and stresses of daily life. If a person goes too far in either direction, his or her entire physical and psychological system gets out of kilter. Where there is a lack of balance, there is also a lack of well being.

You cannot expect to have a body that is well balanced without paying attention to the foundation that was laid for your body. There must be a good solid base to keep the body in good condition to serve you for many years. Your diet is the building block upon which this foundation is laid and which your physical and emotional well being is based. Without proper eating habits you lack what is needed to develop that healthy body. The reason we do not live as long as we were designed to live, is not only because of sin but because of the way we treat our bodies. What you eat is very important to good health. It benefits you now by helping you feel good and keeping you healthy. The later benefit is that it prevents many chronic diseases that may occur as you get older.

While aging is inevitable, many of the diseases are not if steps are taken to prevent them. Recent medical research confirms that good nutrition can prevent or at least slow down such debilitating conditions as osteoporosis, diabetes, and heart disease. Research has also shown that many of the health problems of people over the age of 65 are related to diet. Studies of Seventh Day Adventist, Mormons and Trappist Monks show they are generally people who ascribe to a vegetarian diet and engage in prudent life style. These individuals enjoy increased life expectancy as a result of these lifestyle changes. When you live a healthy/prudent lifestyle, you can indeed increase longevity.
