About the Book
About the Author
Dorian M. Miller has been married for 14 years and is the father of two beautiful daughters. He decided to finally pursue his dream of writing after the company he worked for 15 years closed. Along with working, he coached his 10-year-old daughter's basketball team for two years. Dorian wrote Fate one hour every morning because he worked the night shift and watched his three-year-old daughter all day. Dorian loves cooking and at one time contemplated going to a cooking school to master the art, but his real love for writing holds closer to his heart. Dorian has been writing poetry since he was a teenager. His wife (girl friend back then), kept all of his poems over the years and has pushed him along the way to realize his God given talent. Dorian accredits his writing ability to his father, who has seen much success in the music business for writing songs; his mother for being an educator for over 30 years and instilling hard work ethics into him; and his wife for always being in his corner no matter what odds are stacked against him. She's his biggest supporter and best friend.
Excerpts
Chapter 1After two more days of Derrick looking like death and not talking to Richard, Richard decided to follow Derrick home to see what was going on. Derrick drove a souped up Elcamino. It had to be one of the fastest cars Richard had ever been in. Richard drove a Honda and knew it would be shear luck if he was able to keep up with Derrick without losing him. Derrick was always shy when it came to where he lived. Many times Richard wanted to come over on the weekends. Derrick would make it a point to change the subject and not tell Richard where he lived. Derrick would always arrange to meet Richard at his house. That seemed very strange to Richard. He just figured that Derrick must live in a poor area and was ashamed because of it. None of that mattered to Richard; he was fond of Derrick no matter where he lived.
Richard tailed Derrick through so many alleys and back streets that he thought he would have to pull Derrick over just to ask him how to get home. But Derrick was his friend and he was determined to find out what was going on with him. Finally Derrick pulled up on a dark and dismal looking house. Richard was about a quarter of a mile behind and could hear a woman screaming from the inside of the house. Derrick jumped out of his car and popped the trunk. He grabbed a crowbar and ran in the house. Richard freaked out because he could hear Derrick and some other man screaming at each other. "Was that his Dad?" Richard thought. He didn't want any part of a family feud but the screaming just got louder and louder.
Chapter 3
"Derrick, in the short time that we have known each other you have made my heart soar. I never thought I could be so lucky to find the perfect man for me. I promise to love you unconditionally and to stand by your side for the rest of my life. God loves us both and has made our union possible. In return for the gift God has given me, I will be true and follow what God wants me to be in a wife. I love you Derrick," said Pamela.
"Pamela, not a day has gone by when I didn't pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Loving you has given my heart joy. I promise before our friends, family, and especially God to be faithful, caring and by your side for as long as I live. You have made me the happiest man in the world; and it will now be my job to make you the happiest woman in the world. I love you Pamela," said Derrick.
"May we have the rings please," said the priest. Richard gave the ring to Derrick and Jackie gave the ring to Pamela. "Derrick, do you take Pamela to be your lawfully wedded wife?" asked the priest. "I do," replied Derrick. "And Pamela, do you take Derrick to be your lawfully wedded husband?" asked the priest. "I do," said Pamela. "If there is anyone who feels this wedding shouldn't take place, let him speak now or forever hold his peace," said the priest.
Suddenly five police cars pulled up and Officer Springs jumped out and shouted, "Everyone Hold It Right Where You Are! I feel like it shouldn*t take place because Derrick and his family are wanted down at the station for the disappearance of Jerome Davis right now! Okay boys, let's take them in." The wedding party was shocked. What was supposed to be a beautiful ceremony turned into a nightmare. Derrick fought with the officers as they tried to grab him. "It's my wedding day you bastards!" shouted Derrick. "You may have to reschedule because the station is the only place you're going," said Officer Springs with a smile. Mike Kittles got up and grabbed Jack. "What the hell are you doing Jack? What proof do you have to take them down for questioning?" asked Mike. "You will see when we get to the station, because the captain wants to see you right now ex-partner," said Officer Springs. "I'll make you pay for this Springs. You can count on it." said Mike Kittles. The officers got Derrick, his mom, and sister and took them away in the police cars. Pamela was on her knees crying for them to bring her almost husband back.
