About the Book About the Author Excerpts Catalogue Information About the Book
Although biographical in background, the author deliberately concentrates on the lighter side of life. He takes a wry look back over a fairly long and busy career, which started in Northern Ireland but has been mainly spent as a professional engineer in England, the Irish Republic and Europe with one fairly brief excursion to Japan.
Many serious books have been written about both Irish problems and the engineering industry. This book is different. It tries to strike a balance by making it clear that being a professional engineer provides a generous supply of humorous incidents - in addition to hard work and intellectual satisfaction. It also gives some impression of the lighter side of life in Ireland.
The author also includes a fair selection of his favourites among the jokes which have come his way during a busy life.
About the Author
The author is a well qualified mechanical engineer of Northern Irish origin whose professional career as an engineer has included more than one company but was mainly spent with Rolls-Royce Ltd (on aircraft engines). He spent a good part of his career representing the company abroad. In his "retirement", he runs his own business as a technical translator.
