About the Book

For years, I have listened to teachers say that they cannot find books that are appropriate for children with special needs. The children with whom I work have difficulty understanding and processing information. If the facts are embedded in a long story, the children have difficulty learning the information being presented.

I have often thought about writing books that teachers could use for each classroom theme. I wanted the books to teach the children the important information in a fun, direct way so they could remember it. I finally decided to write a book for the children at school that was inspired by my play with my own daughter, and this is it! Although A Cow, A Horse, and Their Friends, Of Course! was designed for children with special needs, it can be enjoyed by all children of all ages, and adults, too!

The illustrator has done a fantastic job of bringing the words to life through her illustrations. The children can try to predict the verses just by looking at the pictures!

This book provides educational information so that children can learn while having fun. There will be more to follow if you like this one!

A Cow, A Horse, and Their Friends, Of Course! can help all children learn required kindergarten and first grade material in the areas of English Language Arts and Science. This book can be used to help children understand rhyming words and beginning sounds and to identify words. The children can learn to provide attributes (descriptive words) for living things and to sort by category (farm animals). Children can learn to ask and answer questions, identify the author and illustrator, recall details, and re-tell a story.

About the Author

The author has a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology. This book was inspired by her daughter's love of animals, her years spent working with three to five year old children with developmental delays, and listening to the teacher's wishes for appropriate books for their students.
