About the Author Tom Roberts grew up in the Southeast during the Great Depression. At first he was not part of a church-going family. When he was eight years old, Tom and his family became members of Christ Church, an Episcopal Church in Savannah, Georgia. Tom was not a good or bad student in high school. After high school he joined the new U.S. Air Force and during this period he stopped going to church. The mission of the Air Force was to kill people and he did not need to be constantly reminded of this. Due to the Korean G.I. Bill, Tom was able to give college a try. In college Tom was a good student. In something like record time, he received AA, BS and MS degrees with top grades and all available honours. He later received a PhD. The last three of these degrees were in physics, with a minor in math. He accepted a job in a scientific research lab for the U.S. Army. By the time of his retirement, he had authored hundreds of research reports, journal papers, books and about 70 patents. The nature of his work, restricted his reading to non-fiction in the technical subjects and since his retirement, this has continued but now in the areas of history, religion and philosophy. He has become fairly well read in these subjects.
