About the Book

A touching story, with delightful illustrations, about cancer, treatment, and the hand of God; a story of purpose and hope. This story was born out of a real life event. The author's mother was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2003. She underwent surgery immediately and then started treatments. As her mother's 59th birthday approached in June 2003 the author wished to give something of value, depth and hope. This story was the result. The story itself was truly given of God. The illustrations are by the author's youngest daughter, then 8 years old.

For the next 12 months this story served as a sort of script for the author's mother's life. As time went on and more people read the book, it became clear this is a story for many people. This is a book that would offer hope and strength to those facing the journey of cancer and healing - both the individual and the family that supports them. It is a story for young and old alike.

The Parable of the Flower is a beautiful picture of the reality that there is great value and purpose in the life of one who has cancer. God has a plan and will always be faithful.

About the Author

Jill Hoefler is a busy stay-at-home mother of four. She took up her own mother's love of gardening several years back which makes the setting of this story so appropriate. She has learned much from God while tending her garden. "In some ways we are all like the flower in this parable God prunes and tends us. Sometimes the way is hard, but He is ever so loving and always by our side."

Jill enjoys spending time with her family, writing, gardening, and working on house projects to name a few. She resides in Firth, Nebraska with her husband of 18 years, 2 sons and 2 daughters.

Hannah Hoefler, illustrator, is the author's daughter. She is 9 years old and homeschooled. She loves sports, butterflies, kittens and drawing. She brightens the lives of many with her happy pictures and cards. She is the youngest in the family with 2 older brothers and an older sister.

We dedicate this book in memory of Judy Johnson, the author's mother and the illustrator's grandmother. Judy is the flower in this story. She was an inspiration to many with her courage and trust in God and her radiantly pure heart throughout her journey with brain cancer. She lived well and finished well, leaving a legacy of hope and encouragement. She is now "planted" in a heavenly garden, and we can only imagine how beautiful and dazzling her blossoms are. May we all live with the fullness and purpose that she did, and see our hearts grow more pure each day.
