About the Book

A historical and musical context has been provided for the entire original collection, including specific information, anecdotes, and a bit of musical analysis about each selection chosen to be reprinted herein. This publication will help you to resurrect and relive an eventful and important heritage, important not only to Scotsmen the world over, but also to a great proportion of Americans and others who have good reason to look to the ideas of the Scottish Enlightenment, which have been a fertile source of our spiritual, philosophical, cultural and musical ideas to this day.

About the Author

Arnold E. Burkart has been a music teacher since 1948, a supervisor, editor, publisher, university professor, founding president of a thriving national educational organization and world traveler. Now retired, enjoying life with his wife Rebecca and daughter Laurel in a lovely region of small towns in Northern Florida, he still contributes his interests and skills to local musical, educational and theatre organizations and events.
