About the Book

The book was written by a soldier who survived more than three years of starvation and brutality under North Korean and Chinese Communist Forces in Korea from July 1950 to August 1953.


About the Author

Donald E. Donner was born March 26, 1930 at Port Angeles, Washington. He attended school in Arlington, WA and joined the military in August of 1948. He served in Japan before being deployed to Korea at the outbreak of the war. He was wounded and captured at Taejon, South Korea on July 20, 1950.

The author survived the more than three years as a prisoner of war in North Korea and returned home in September of 1953. Donald was married to Barbara Jean DeVerna in January1954. They had one son and two daughters and now have nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Barbara passed away in 2001. They had been married for nearly forty-eight years.

The mission of this book is to pay tribute to the heroes who did not return, having given their lives for the freedom that we all enjoy today.
