About the Book
Beyond Ellis Island touches on the lives of Czech Immigrants who came to America at the turn of the century. When they got off the ship and walked America's soil they saw no limits to their dreams. All they had to do was give of themselves and work hard. The immigrants had visions and worked hard toward the goal of owning land. This book is a collection of memories evolved from the author's reflections, recollections, perceptions and impressions of what transpired during her formative years.
About the Author
Mary Betik Trojacek was born in 1929 in Ennis, Texas, one of ten children born to parents of Czech immigrants. Many Czechs live in the Ennis community and I grew up in an environment of Czech culture, heritage and traditions. Her elementary education was in a 3-room country school where all the kids spoke Czech and then learned English.
This book describes how we created our own good times and as a result had some unusual and hilarious experiences.
