About the Book

A historical novel of the first invasion in the Pacific War in World war II, by the United States Marine Corps. The dates, weather, battles, and actioon by the real characters were very carefully researched. The fictional characters, patterned after marines known by the author during his six years of service in the marines coprs, add spice to the book. A sequal about the Battle on Bougainville will be published soon.



About the Author

David R. Hinton is a free lance writer and historical novelist. He served ten years with the U.S. Marine Corps and U. S. Navy. After discharge he assumed a position as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America. After taking early retirement from the BSA in 1995, he began writing novels, drawing on his experiences in the Marines. He has written Letters From the Dead... Guadalcanal, which is now available in paperback, and a sequal Letters From the Dead... Bougainville, which will be available in paperback soon. He then became focussed on the Civil War, and is about to publish a historical novel called Smoke and Fire, Two Flags Ablaze - Book One, which will be followed by five sequals spanning the period from John Brown's birth through the Reconstruction Period foloowing the war. The same fictional characters are featured in all five books. Also, he has written a fantasy novel called The Spirit and is currently writing a sequal to it called The Wood Nymph.
