About the Book

The story of an armoured recon platoon that was often at the front 24/7. They used humor to retain their sanity while engaged in the ultimate insanity of WWII. Often weather was the number one enemy, from the rainy days in Normandy to the snow in the Battle of the Buldge.



About the Author

The author served 2 years in the army. 18 months of it was overseas- 2 months training on the Saunton Sands in England, 10 onths in combat, 6 months of occupation during which time he was in charge of the border patrol between Bavaria and Czechslovakia. Because he made a strong effort to learn German he was able to communicate with the German civilians and thus prevent any ugly incidents. He earned 4 battle stars, a distinguished unit citation, a bronze star for heroism, and a peice of gold braid awarded his Battalion by the French unit they fought alongside in the liberation of Paris. He was discharged as a staff sergeant and returned to civilian life where he and his wife raised 4 children-9 grandchildren-12 great grandchildren. His wife of 60 years died 5 years ago and he currently lives alone in his own apartment. He is a member of the executive board of the North Star Chapter 33 of the National Civilian Conservation Corps. He writes for both the local and national newsletters.
